AGMS Celebrates Homecoming
AGMS students celebrated another first: Homecoming Week with only students in grades 6-8; however many of our students' favorite traditions followed us from our time as a combined MS/HS. Students participated in dress-up days, class competitions, and the High School Marching Band played Blue and White in the halls on Friday morning. Take a look at some of our favorite pictures from the week below. Thanks to all of our students for participating.

Welding Program "RAISING THE BAR" at Ashland-Greenwood High School
Career Technical Education Welding Instructor: Ryan Keller
Ashland-Greenwood currently has 34 students involved in our welding program which is part of the Skilled and Technical Sciences or Career and Technical Education program at AGHS. Mr. Ryan Keller has been trained and approved to teach and assess welding courses through Southeast Community College (Lincoln). We currently offer college level Gas Metal Arc Welding, Shield Metal Arc Welding, and Oxy/Acetylene Welding and Cutting. To prepare our students for these College Welding options, we have 2 sections of students that take Beginning then Advanced welding to learn the basic safety, terminology, and welding skills.
Ashland-Greenwood has partnered with and appreciate the support (among others) from Valmont Industries and the Lozier Company. These entities provide resources, expertise, and materials to use as our students learn the trade. One of our only limitations is space. We have truly maximized our ability to offer student spots and have had to turn students away if we reach capacity.
Currently, several of the seniors are finishing BBQ Smokers that they designed and built themselves. If you would like to learn more about this program or would like to support this program in some way, please contact the school or email ryan.keller@agps.org directly.

RAISE THE BAR RALLY HELD AT ASHLAND-GREENWOOD HIGH SCHOOL
Quarter 2 will feature a canned food competition between Houses!
Students learned about their Family Groups and their HOUSES today at our Raise the Bar Rally. There will be a competition between houses in terms of School Spirit....or who comes to our home events AND there will be a competition to see which HOUSE can bring the most donated canned food items for our local food bank and kids cupboard.
Our students were able to hear a message from Joseph Eggen (LTC) from the Army National Guard about SERVICE.
We recognized a few RAISE THE BAR Winners and our Student Ambassador leaders!

Eighth-Graders Visit SCC and UNL
On October 30, the 8th-grade class took a field trip to Southeast Community College to explore the future career opportunities they offer. Half of the students headed to Lincoln where they saw the culinary, business, welding, and health-related careers, among others. The other half of the students went to Milford where they learned about manufacturing, automotive repair, and construction. Milford also houses diesel technology, as well as many sponsored automotive programs.
In the afternoon, the students traveled to the Outdoor Adventures Building on the campus of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. After breaking into teams of 4-5, they competed in challenges consisting of rock climbing, rope-jousting, tangrams, and puzzle-solving. The purpose of the challenges was to strengthen team-building skills while having some fun along the way.

DUAL CREDIT Report. Ashland-Greenwood data regarding Dual Credit with Southeast Community College.
- 2023-2024 Dual Enrollment Report:
- 117 Participants (this is 83% of our Junior and Senior class took part)
- 262 College Credit Courses completed
- Average GPA on those courses of 3.41
- 91% pass rate (C or above college grade)
- 69% of the courses were face to face with a teacher in person
- 30% were online
- 12% were a hybrid or synchronus
These numbers are a strong reflection of our students' academic mindfulness and support of parent/guardian (s) in preparing for their post-secondary education or plans.
Currently in the process of registering students for Spring semester with SCC for dual credit enrollments, if you haven’t seen Mr. Richards about taking a dual credit course, please stop by the Guidance Center and let’s get that process completed.
Starting Monday November 4, 2024, will be looking at 2nd Semester schedules so if you need to make any changes to your 2nd semester schedule, you need to stop by the Guidance Center and make those changes. The goal is that all 2nd semesters will be in place before we start the second semester in January 2025.
Seniors, you should have already applied to the post-secondary institutions that you are planning on attending. If you need any assistance with that process, please ask and I will be more than happy to assist. This includes those that are planning to apply for apprenticeships, the military or to enter the workforce after graduation. If you haven’t decided what you will be doing after graduation yet, not a problem, stop in and we can chat about those options.
Enjoy your Thanksgiving and be mindful of things in life that we need to be thankful for.
