March is Middle Level Education Month!
Each year, the Association for Middle Level Education (AMLE) celebrates Middle Level Education month! This is a time to celebrate the many wonderful things about middle school aged-children, the educators who serve them, and the caregivers who love them! The passage below provides information about middle school children that we all should know as we support our students through their middle school journey. Thank you to AMLE for providing this information!
Upcoming 8th grade Social Studies Field Trip
The 8th grade Social Studies teachers would like to give 8th grade parents/guardians a heads up that field trip forms for the 8th grade Social Studies field trip in March will be coming home early next week. Please sign the field trip forms as soon as you can and return them to school so that they can finalize the details for the trip. Thank you for your help!
PTO Mini Grants
From the office of our Technology Specialist
If your child has any difficulties with their school issued Chromebook, please remind them to visit our library to submit a Student Technology Request for assistance with their device. Our librarians will guide them through the process of submitting the ticket.
Whether something is not functioning correctly or they have lost their charger, the Student Technology Request system is the way for them to report any technology issue/concern and get it repaired/replaced.
Yearbooks are on Sale!
Yearbooks are on sale until March 4, 2024 for $20 each. Online purchases only.
Opportunities to Learn about Proposed Legislation
District families who would be interested in learning more about legislation being proposed that would impact public education, including our district, we’re providing you with two opportunities to do so.
First, we are hosting three in-person meetings on the following Fridays from 8-9 a.m. at our district service center (3232 S. Brentwood Blvd): March 8, April 5, and May 10. Participants will learn about bills that have been proposed and/or are working their way through the legislative process. If you plan to attend, please make sure to bring a drivers license or MO ID so that you can be checked in through our visitor management system.
Next, we’re going to be sending out a regular email which will allow you to get updates on education-related bills being presented and discussed in Jefferson City. In order to not overwhelm our readers, it’s our intent for this communication to be no more than 1-2 pages in length. For this reason, we will limit the number of bills included in the weekly update.
In addition to the weekly communication, we will also provide readers with special legislative “alerts” so that one can be informed when significant action has been taken with a bill. In order to receive these updates, you must sign up here. Only those who join will receive the weekly updates and alerts.
Varsity Tutors
The Webster Groves School District is excited to announce that we are partnering with a product funded by DESE (Department of Elementary and Secondary Education) called Varsity Tutors. Varsity Tutors is making the “Varsity Tutors for Schools” platform available to Missouri schools for the 2023-24 and 2024-25 school years at no cost. Varsity Tutors is excited to share this opportunity, aimed at positively impacting all Missouri K-12 students.
Through Varsity Tutors students will have access to on demand help from experts 24/7 with chatting with experts, live classes, as well as individualized support. In addition, Varsity Tutors platform access includes free SAT and ACT prep classes, on-demand video lessons, and adaptive practice problems.

Community Recognition
The Webster Groves School District's Equity in Action Committee values and encourages peer-to-peer recognition for equity work. The Community Recognition initiative provides an opportunity for members of the community to recognize individuals (i.e. students, teachers, parents, friends, community members, etc.), schools, businesses, and organizations who make contributions towards creating and cultivating a culture of dignity that values all human beings within the WGSD.
To learn more about this opportunity and to make a recognition, please go to Community Recognition. The deadline is April 19.
Math Placement for 24-25 School Year
Students in Math 6 and Math 7 will be assessed to determine course placement for next school year. Tests are administered during math class and take one class period to complete.
These end-of-year assessments will be administered on February 28. Sixth grade students are not expected to know Math 7 content and seventh grade students are not expected to know Math 8 content. The majority of students will continue on to the next level of math.
If you believe your child would not benefit from taking the end-of-year test for the next course and you prefer for your child to continue with their math program and be placed in the grade level math course next year, please contact your child’s math teacher prior to the scheduled testing date.
Sixth grade students currently enrolled in Math 7 with a grade of 75% or higher will be placed in Math 8 next year. Seventh grade students in Math 8 with a grade of 75% or higher will be placed in Algebra next year. Seventh grade students in Algebra 1 with a grade of 75% or higher will be placed in Honors Geometry next year.
More information regarding course placement may be found at the link below.
