New year...positive talk!
A National Science Foundation study found that most of us have between 60-80 thousand individual thoughts per day.
Up to 80% of those thoughts are negative.
Worse, up to 95% of our thoughts are repetitive.
Psychologists suggest that you can reverse these effects by focusing on positive self-talk. After you recognize yourself saying something negative to yourself, stop, and then come up with 3 positive things to say about yourself and your performance.
This 3:1 ratio of positive to negative thoughts can get you in the right frame of mind.
To foster positive self-talk, we will concentrate on one affirmation each week. A weekly affirmation will be shared in this newsletter, discussed during announcements, and displayed in hallways and classrooms.
Our goal is for this new initiative to positively influence our students, but mental health is a shared concern that impacts everyone. Therefore, this practice is also intended for all our staff and JES families. We invite you to join JES and weave this into your home routines. I genuinely hope you can.
Here's to wishing that 2025 becomes an incredible year for Johnson Elementary, our students, and their families!
Warm regards,
Carrie Carter
