It’s hard to believe that term three has come to an end, and we soon will be saying goodbye to our year eights.


This term has been a challenging one, teachers having to deal with a lot of issues. Once again, these issues mainly stem from social media. I truly wish that parents would monitor the children’s devices, it would make life much easier for your child.


For the last two weeks we have had Hui Ata first thing in the morning. These assemblies have been used to talk about acts of kindness, words spoken and other values that we want to instill as part of the TIS Way. Could I challenge parents and caregivers to encourage this during the two weeks break.


Lunchtime sports have started once again. The better weather has enabled us to do this. The classes are challenging each other in non-stop cricket and four-square. The children are able to earn bonus points for their Whare when they demonstrate the core values of our school.


Vapes continue to be an issue, with several students bringing them to school. Next term the Life Education trust will be with us. Their focus will be on the harmful effects of vaping and standing up to peer pressure. Hopefully, with this knowledge the students will make better choices. I can’t stress enough the damage that vapes can cause in an emerging adolescent’s life.


Finally, next term’s programme includes Sexuality Education, where teachers will cover topics of body changes through puberty. A consent form including an outline of the programme has been sent out electronically. If you want to withdraw your child from these lessons, you will need to follow the link included in the email or contact our school office.

Waikato Intermediate Kia-O-Rahi

Last Tuesday we took a team to the first WIMS Kia-o-rahi tournament at Matamata Intermediate School. Our team played well and showed a lot of skill & talent, but unfortunately we didn’t reach the semi-finals.


Many thanks to Jared Kennedy and Eugene Whetu, who coached the team and to the support crew from Raukawa who travelled with us on the day.

Tokoroa Intermediate students working with the Menz Shed

This term, six of our students had the opportunity to work with the experts at the Menz Shed of Tokoroa.


A big thank you especially to Ted, who shared his expert knowledge with our students and patiently demonstrated practical processes. Our students made neat table tennis bats and a bread board each.


We look forward to continuing this positive relationship with the Menz Shed. Well done boys!

Eco-Council Visits to Primary Schools

Term 3 our Eco-council students visited Strathmore, North and Cargill Open Plan schools. Five students talked about the great things we are doing in our school to become an environmentally friendly school.


Jezadeen Letoga spoke about the environmental duties whares have, in order to keep our school clean. Maria Ryder spoke about environmental marking, where councillors go out and record the cleanest area. Shorna Tuakeu spoke about our recycling programme. Lydia Haugh spoke about our worm farms, and lastly Mason McCondach spoke about our Garden to Table programme, where we now grow our own vegetables for our Food Technology room.

Scottish Country Dancing

Weekly Scottish Country Dancing sessions for school age students will start in term 4 beginning on Thursday 12th October. Sessions will run from 6 to 7pm in the Amisfield School Hall, Moffat Road, Tokoroa. All welcome to join our fun and learning with no charge for your first two sessions.
