Parkside Updates
Welcome to Week Three!
Students and Families,
We are excited to enter our first full week of school this year. Every school day and each of our classes is important for helping students establish the habits they need to continue to grow as learners. One of Parkside's core values is pride which means that students need to be learning how to make the right decision because they value themselves and their futures. We are asking all families to remind their students of your expectations for them and the importance of attending school everyday. We have included some helpful information about attendance and other news about what is going on at Parkside this week.
Thank you,
The Parkside Staff
Show up Manchester!
Last year, 69% of Parkside students attended school for 90% of all school days (less than 18 absences). This year our goal is for 74% of students to attend school 90% or more of all school days. This goal is important because reducing the number of students who are chronically absent will help improve outcomes and lead to more academic success for these students.
Chronic absenteeism is missing so much school for any reason that a student is academically at risk. This means if a student misses 18 days or more for any reason they are considered chronically absent. Missing school and class time is detrimental to a student's own learning and can often be a distraction from the learning of others. We have included a health guidance form to help you in making decisions around your child's attendance at school.
If you are worried about your child's school attendance please talk with one of your child's teachers, their school counselor, our social worker or an administrator.
Attendance at Sporting Events
Volleyball season starts this week and Parkside's first home game is Monday September 16. Here is a list of procedures that students must follow in order to attend sporting events.
- All student spectators must be Parkside students (once we have student IDs you will need them to enter). Students who do not attend Parkside must be accompanied by a parent for entry (this includes younger and older siblings of Parkside students).
Student spectators will be allowed into the building 5 minutes before the games start. Students must be picked up immediately after the game ends. Students who are not picked up within 15 minutes of a game ending will be restricted from attending future games.
Parkside students, not accompanied by a parent, must sit in the Parkside fan section (bleachers closest to the lobby door).
Students must be in school by 7:45AM and attend the entire school day (unless there is a doctor’s note) to be admitted. Absent students will not be allowed entry into games.
The focus of attending a sporting event is that event and not the lobby or hallway. Students will be sent home if they attempt to wander the building or if they continuously exit the gym. Additionally, students can’t leave the building and then return.
Students exhibiting behavior that does not meet expectations will be removed from the game and restricted from attending future games.
Students may be restricted from attending games for violations of the code of conduct during the school day. Students who owe detention hours will not be admitted.
