®️May SEL Trait - Mental Health Awareness Month®️
Good afternoon Riverton families,
Happy May! Happy Teacher/Staff/Nurse Appreciation Week! As we kick off May I wanted to thank all of our Riverton Staff for all that they do for our school community. We have a great week planned to celebrate our staff. Thank you to the PTO for their help in celebrating. Our Riverton Staff Rocks!
Did you know? May is Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. This month celebrates the rich history and contributions of Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islander Americans.
AANHPI month was initially established as a week-long event in 1979 following resolutions introduced by U.S. Representatives Frank Horton and Norman Mineta, and Senators Daniel Inouye and Spark Matsunaga, the celebration was extended to a full month in 1992 by President George H.W. Bush.
This month honors the diverse cultures and significant impacts these communities have made on the United States, from historical achievements to contemporary societal contributions. Various institutions, including the National Archives and the White House, recognize this month by hosting events, showcasing historical documents, and promoting educational activities that highlight the enduring influence and contributions of these communities to American society. In my next newsletter I will highlight resources our Riverton Staff are using to help celebrate.
With gratitude,
Mr. Zagorski
