Emergency Days | Last Day of School
When a day(s) is missed due to school closings (known as “emergency day”), the day(s) will be made up at the end of the school year, in accordance with the approved calendar.
At present, due to the District utilizing three emergency days so far this school year, the last day of school is Thursday, May 30.
Principally Speaking
Our first week back was busy and many students participated in the IAR testing this week. The weather fluctauted between spring rains, flurries and finished off with some sunshine this afternoon. As many of you know Monday there will be a solar eclipse. Below is infromation regarding that event.
On Monday, April 8, 2024, Illinois will be in the path of a total solar eclipse. Information
regarding the timing and path of the eclipse can be found here:
https://science.nasa.gov/eclipses/future-eclipses/eclipse-2024/where-when/
Lincoln has been planning how to safely enjoy this experience with our students first-hand. We want to ensure that students have a chance to experience the astronomical event for this generation in the safest way possible. We have purchased certified "eclipse viewing glasses" that meet international safety standards. Please be aware that the only safe way to look directly at the eclipsed or partially eclipsed sun is through special-purpose solar filters, such as "eclipse viewing glasses." Homemade filters or ordinary sunglasses, even very dark ones, are not safe for looking at the sun. The concentrated solar rays can enter the human eye(s), potentially causing serious and permanent injury up to and including blindness. Students will be staying inside for recess during the day and will wear the eclipse viewing glasses during dismissal.
Teachers will use their professional judgment in determining the level of participation for students. Because of the safety concerns associated with viewing an eclipse, the form below should be completed and submitted to our school before April 8th, 2024. Students without a completed permission form will not view the eclipse outside. Viewing the eclipse via Nasa live stream will be provided as an alternate activity for those students not participating.
Please complete this form, students without permission will not be able to participate.

Please call the Attendance Line to Report an Absence
If your student is going to be late or absent, please call 331-228-2500 and press 1 to report the absence and the reason. Leave a message on the attendance line as soon as possible that morning or the night before. Thank you for your help in verifying absences from school.
Cougars Reading Club
Keep encouraging those good reading habits! Ask your student about what he or she is reading and fill out THIS FORM to verify it. In the spring, we will celebrate the students' diligence with an in-school field trip to a Cougars game.
This week in LRC students were given a book mark representing the fact that they are on their way to earning the free ticket. If your son or daughter did not recieve a book mark, we do not have verification that they are reading. Please submit the google form below, we hope everyone is able to attend the free baseball game.

iReady Rock Stars
In our second semester we are recognizing students who are working hard on their iReady. This is an online resource, that has a personalized pathway for students to work on both reading and math. It is recommended for students to complete 45 minutes in each contant area. Students work on this at school and at home, we encourage you to check in and see how they are doing, and encourage them to complete the required minutes, as it is a proven way to improve skill development.
Each week we will recognize 2-3 students per classroom on the previous weeks work. Below are our first group of students that are iReady Rockstars!

Lincoln Reminders
Pick up and drop off procedures
The car line on the north side of the building is for drop off, please do not park your car and get out. If you feel like your child needs assistance getting out of their car seat or you need to get out during the process please park your car in the library lot and you can walk them over to the door.
When picking up for an appointment early
If your son or daughter needs to leave school mid-day for an appointment, please understand that we will not call your child down to the office until you are here. Time in school is very limited and every moment counts, once you are here we will call them and promptly have them come down to leave with you, but we do not want to call ahead because often they are missing valuable instruction waiting for the pick up due to unforeseen circumstances. Thank you for understanding.
BERNIE’S BOOK BANK DONATION DRIVE
The D303 donation drive for Bernie’s Book Bank will be held for two weeks, April 1-12, 2024, at all D303 schools. Please consider bringing in new and gently used children’s books for birth through 6th grade to one of the D303 schools during the donation drive. Students, parents, or staff may place books in the collection bins located in the front hallway. D303’s goal for the 2024 donation drive is 20,000 books. Every book will help us reach our goal. Family Contact Info - Please verify for your family!
District 303 would like to remind families to make sure the contact information you’ve provided is up-to-date. We want to ensure you’re getting timely alerts on important notifications.
Prior to the start of class, District 303 will send test messages through its mass communication system to the contact information you have on file (email, text and phone). This is the way the District and your child’s school(s) contact you when sending mass messages simultaneously.
Visit the Home Access Center website for information on how to view and edit your contact settings.
View Notification Preferences/Enable Text Messages
District 303 will send notifications to families through the ParentLink system by text message, phone call and email based on your settings. Parents/guardians can view and edit their contact settings through the Home Access Center.
To receive timely emergency communications, we strongly encourage families to enable text notifications. For most people, this is the fastest way to receive and view important messages. Here’s how:
- From the HAC main menu, select the “registration” tab to view your contact settings
- Select the “edit” button to change your contact settings
- To enable text message notifications, enter your cell phone number in the Cell/Text field
- Select the “save” button
