Late January News
Principal's Update
Dear NBC Parents,
I hope this letter finds you well as we settle into this semester. Your student may be buzzing (or maybe whispering!) about their new elective class. Electives are such an exciting way for students to explore interests and try new things, whether it’s robotics, art, music, or something else. I encourage you to ask your child about their new elective. You might be surprised by how much they’re learning!
Speaking of learning, this is also a good time to check in on grades and assignments. Our PowerSchool portal is your best friend for keeping up with how your student is doing in their classes. (And yes, it’s okay if you need to reset your password—it happens to all of us!)
If you notice anything that raises questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your student’s teachers. They are here to partner with you in supporting your child’s success and are always happy to help answer questions or address concerns. Sometimes even a quick email can make a big difference.
Thank you for all you do to support your student’s learning and growth. Middle school is a time of discovery, growth, and yes, sometimes confusion. But with a little curiosity, teamwork, and a sense of humor, we’ve got this!
As always, if you have questions or concerns please feel free to contact me at 231-894-5617 or by email at perreaultj@mapsk12.org
Jim Perreault
NBC Middle School Principal
P.S. If your student claims they “don’t have any homework,” feel free to double-check PowerSchool or Google Classroom just in case.

NBC Student Connections
Take a look at some pictures of what our students are up to during the month of January!
FFA Students
Students had to do a 3 to 5 minute presentation stating in chronological order of the steps on how to do something. Some of the presentations included how to make pancakes, how to make a recycling bin with worms, how to put fishing lures and bobbin on a fishing pole, how to make a bologna and cheese sandwich, how to show a bunny at a 4H show and how to do a mathematical equation. Nice work, students!
Caberfae Ski Trip
The Caberfae Ski Trip on January 17th was a big success for NBC students. Students were able to take ski or snowboard lessons and enjoyed the afternoon and evening on the slopes. There is another ski trip scheduled on February 7th.
Community Time Games
Mrs. Szegda received a Muskegon Community Foundation Grant for board games and card games for our students and teachers to play during their community time.
6th Grade Parents Reminder about Xello
6th grade parents: be sure to check your email for a message from Xello Family so you can get connected to your student's Xello account. By doing this, you will help your student earn money that will be deposited into their Kickstart to Career account.
Click on the link below for more directions and information.
A friendly reminder from the NBC office staff
If you plan on picking your student up early for some reason and know ahead of time, please send your student with a note that morning and we will get them a pass to leave class and meet you at the entrance of the school for their pick up time. This decreases wait time and class interruptions.
PLEASE if your student is not going to be in school or is sick, call the office and let us know why they will not be in school. This way we can mark them with an excused absence instead of an unexcused absence. According to the NBC Middle School Handbook, parents must provide an explanation for their child's absence by no later than 10:00 am on the day of the absence or by the following day.
If we DO NOT answer the phone as we are busy with students or on another line, PLEASE leave a message for us, we will get it taken care of and/or call you back if need be as soon as we are available.
Thank you parents,
-Mrs. Halverson & Mrs. Kraus
