College and Career Readiness News
May 2024
Congratulations to the class of 2024!
Dear class of 2024,
This month of May will hopefully be a magical time in your lives. Your high school careers started off a bit rough. We were in the midst of a pandemic, you attended school on an A or B day (that changed a few times throughout the year) and you didn't have a lot of interaction with your peers.
Things thankfully changed after that first year! Your marching band made national news sophomore year when the buses they had lined out canceled at the last minute and the surrounding schools worked together to provide school buses and drivers to transport students.
Junior year, sometimes known as the most challenging (academic) year in high school, you broke records with BEAST week totals-really, that happened every year. You attend your first prom and many of you chose to take concurrent classes or even virtual classes with our blended program.
Which leads us to senior year! We celebrated the success of many students this year. We honored 5 National Merit Finalists (a first for MHS). We put on a world class production of The Wizard of Oz. We broke our BEAST week record and we hopefully had a lot of fun. We made memories.
Mustang High School celebrates the class of 2024. May you go on to do great things!
FAFSA news and updates
It has been quite a year for these current seniors and understanding the new FAFSA. This article from ABC news has more updates and links. https://abcnews.go.com/GMA/Family/parents-new-fafsa/story?id=109309038
Most colleges and universities are packaging student aid offers now. Many colleges have informed us that May 1st is the final deadline to submit to receive your aid package prior to starting school in the fall. Please be sure to contact your college/university financial aid office to see their exact deadlines.
*Looking forward to the future-High school seniors (class of 2025) will be required to complete the FAFSA in order to graduate. This state law went into effect July 1, for the current juniors, therefore not affecting the current seniors. We don't have all the details yet, but wanted to give you a heads up now!

Understanding your financial aid offer

MHS summer office hours
Need to get a hold of someone at the HS during the summer?
The main office will be open Monday-Thursday 9am-3pm with a lunch break from 12-1230 (the office will be closed during that time). Offices will be closed on Fridays.
If you need to make an appointment to see a counselor, please call 405-376-7341. Not all counselors work during the summer, but at least one should be available each day the office is open.
Need a transcript?
All transcript requests are handled through Parchment. Head to the main page of the HS website https://mhs.mustangps.org/ click on the grad cap icon that says transcripts. You will find instructions on how to create a Parchment account and have your transcript sent anywhere you need it. Senior packets (available late June) will have paper transcripts in them, but you can always request more if needed.
Taking a concurrent college class this summer?
If you are a current sophomore or junior that will be taking a concurrent college class this summer, please make sure your counselor knows (and has signed off on all the paperwork). As a reminder, you must maintain at least a 2.0 GPA concurrently to continue in classes in the future. This means if you make a D or F in a concurrent class, your GPA will not be high enough to continue. Please speak with your counselor if you have questions or concerns. This article from OK College Start has great information regarding concurrent classes https://secure.okcollegestart.org/College_Planning/Prepare_for_College/concurrent_enrollment.aspx
Have you completed your MHS enrollment?
If a student does not have all paperwork submitted to central enrollment by the end of the fiscal year in June, they will be labeled as "inactive." This means that the student will not have a schedule to pick up in the fall and will have to visit central enrollment to complete the process.
Parents/guardians must submit proof of residency, ID and any other legal documentation through the powerschool portal to complete the re-enrollment process.
If you have questions please reach out to mpsce@mustangps.org
