Tēnā koutou katoa
Ngā mihi nui, kia koutou katoa - Warm greetings to you all.
Thank you to the parents and friends who were able to come along to the FoTS Mid Winter Quiz Night on Friday. It was a fun night out !!! An especially BIG thank you to the FoTS team who made the night so special, these women are a well oiled machine who make magic happen, and our school is eternally grateful for your energy and enthusiasm. We enjoyed the support of many sponsors for the quiz night; it is not possible to have these events without community support - thank you.
I am pleased to share that the Board of Trustees have co-opted Holly Hawkins on to the Board. Holly is a parent of the school and heads the Family Law Team at BCH Lawyers. We are thrilled to have her join our governance team.
Traffic around the school at the end of the school day continues to be a significant safety concern. We do have strategies in place to help reduce congestion, however, at the end of the day we need our school community to be patient and think about the safety of all children when making their parking and driving choices. We will supervise children until they are picked up, you do not need to feel under any pressure to find a carpark close by. By 3:05pm there are always several parks available on both Arundel Street and Fifth Avenue.
We need our school community’s help to ensure a smooth end of the school day.
Tauranga Primary School has a "pick up and go" option for junior students (Years 1 and 2) at 2:50pm. Please use this option if you are picking children up and leaving thus providing a park for parents who are picking up at 3:00pm. Teachers will supervise children by their class until 3:10pm and then children are brought over to the office.
Please remember to practise safe parking behaviour, obey the road rules, and choose safety over convenience.
- Is "park and walk" an option for you at pick up? Memorial Park is a nine minute walk from school and a great way to get your steps up for the day. There are also short stay car parks on avenues close by (Second, Third, Fourth, Fifth and Sixth Avenue)
- by 3:05pm daily there are free parks on both Arundel Street and Fifth Ave. Children are supervised until 3:10pm
- bike, walk, scooter to school to help reduce congestion - be fit and healthy
- use the designated safe school crossings on Cameron Road, Fifth and Sixth Avenue, even if you need to walk a little further
- when school road patrols are operating, please pay attention to their instructions and use the crossings. Be a role model for all our TPS kids
A reminder:
- no parking on footpaths
- no stopping or parking on yellow lines (even if you have your hazard warning lights on)
- no double parking alongside other vehicles to pick up or drop off children
- no U-turns in the vicinity of the pedestrian crossing on Fifth Avenue
- please leave the mobility parks for those that need them
We have requested that the Tauranga Primary School area be visited regularly by Travel Safe and TCC Parking to help maintain safety for all children using the area. They plan to be at TPS after school some afternoons next week.
-------------------------
Some parents may have noticed that their child's attendance for the term was slightly incorrect in the school report. We have identified the coding error in our Student Management System that led to this and it has now been corrected.
TPS will be selling Oxford Pies again this year, and have added an option for Lamingtons. This is a fundraising opportunity for the school. Ffunds raised will be utilised to update our school bike shed as it needs a new roof and some serious refurbishment. Pies are $11 each and Lamingtons $8 for a pack of 6. I can personally vouch for the quality and taste of both the pies and Lamingtons and I will definitely be ordering some for the Hawes family freezer 😋.
A very warm welcome to Rahiri Whare, Ryder Pomare-Tahana, Noah Goodman, Matheus Galiotto De Oliveira, Lincoln Clemens, Harlan Shaw, Esme Kemeys, Connor McEnirney and Alehi Pereira who have recently started at TPS.

Walking School Bus for TPS?
We are investigating the viability of establishing a walking school bus between TPS and Memorial Park each day at 3:05pm.
How does a walking school bus work? Children meet at a designated spot after school and, with the assistance of parents, the TPS walking school bus would walk to Memorial Park to meet parents parked there.
This initiative is to reduce the traffic around TPS at 3:00pm, so that children can exit school safely.
We would need volunteer parents to walk with children down to Memorial Park where parents would be located for pick up. TCC will support us to establish the group and get everything going.
Please respond to the poll below so we can see if there is interest in this initiative.

You can order your pies and lamingtons now via the TPS school shop.
Delivery is on Wednesday of Week 1 of Term 3.
CULTURES OF T.P.S
Multicultural Day - 27th June
On the 27th of June, we would like to learn about and celebrate the many cultures of our students.
In the morning, we will celebrate Matariki with breakfast and some student performances from 7:30am to 8:30am.
After that, we plan to have a day of learning about and celebrating all the other cultures represented at Tauranga Primary School. We are working to connect with various cultural groups to come and perform. We hope that our school community can also contribute. Are there any parents, aunties, uncles, or grandparents that could come into their child's class and share about their culture? Some ideas are: sharing traditional dress, cooking food, special celebrations, traditional stories, dances, arts and crafts.
Please contact your child's teacher if this is something you would like to be involved in or if you can help out on the day.
Shared Lunch
We will also be having a shared lunch on this day. Could you please organise a plate/container of finger food that your child can share, please note we are unable to heat food. Please label your food if it is gluten, nut or dairy free, or if it is vegetarian.
If you have any concerns regarding your child participating in a shared lunch please talk to the class teacher.
This is a special celebration day, so students are welcome to wear their cultural attire.

FOTS meeting Tuesday 25th June 5:30pm in the staffroom - everyone welcome
What an amazing fundraiser we had last Friday. The FOTS would like to thank everyone who came and brought the Christmas spirit to have a fun night. Thanks to Hidden Truffle Catering for the grazing platters. A huge thank you to all our sponsors, without them we would have never exceeded our fundraising goal. Together we raised over $9000 towards the upgrade of the hall and this is an amazing result.
Also a huge thank you to all the little Elfs, that gave us a helping hand to decorate and put this night together.
We are looking forward to doing it all again next year.
Don't forget to order your delicious Oxford Pies.

Miki Nakagawa
"TPS School Events Photos" by Drops Photography has been run by Miki Murase (mostly using my maiden name Nakagawa) for 10 years.
The photos are taken at most school events like X-Country, Swimming Sports, and Kapa Haka, as well many others indicated by the school.
All photos can be seen and purchased on a closed Facebook group made for TPS parents only. This group is not open to the public and because of the TPS students' privacy policy parents will need to answer some unique questions to join in.
It's my pleasure to be part of the TPS whanau and to be able to capture TPS kids' school memories.
Sorry if my english is still too funny!😖😅
