State Testing Results- Parent Portal
Last school year, students in 3rd-5th grade began taking the new state-wide assessment system called ATLAS. These students took a summative assessment in Spring of 2024. Beginning this school year, Arkansas added Kindergarten-2nd grade. This new assessment system included a beginning-of-year screener for Kinder-3rd grade students. This screener identified areas in literacy and math where your child may benefit from additional support and provide their teacher with the information necessary to help them grow.
Purpose of screeners in Kindergarten-2nd grade:
1. Determine readiness to master grade-level work.
2. Signal need for any further diagnostic testing that may be needed.
A Kindergarten-3rd grade screener:
✓ DOES identify a student’s risk for poor reading or math outcomes
✓ DOES help differentiate between students that need interventions or additional support and those that do not
✓ DOES provide relevant information about the students to guide instruction
How do I access my student’s summative results (current 4th-5th) from Spring 2024 OR screener results from this fall (current Kinder-3rd grade) ?
Parents, you should receive an email from Cambium testing company giving you directions and an access code to view your child's ATLAS scores online sometime the week of November 4th. It pulls the email from our e-school system, so if the school does not have your correct email, please call the office to correct it. Soon, we will also send more detailed information about screener results, possible interventions your child may receive, and the Individual Reading Plans that teachers will create based on our screener results. If you have questions, reach out to Sara Kennedy skennedy@sdale.org or Lillie Dickard ldickard2@sdale.org.

Notes from the Counselor
November Counseling Lesson Theme: Conflict Resolution
How to Help your Child Solve Conflicts
Coach Them Through It
Each conflict your child encounters can be a learning experience. Each of these experiences, if handled well, will add up to a child who is able to resolve their own conflicts peacefully. Instead of “rescuing” or solving your child’s problems, coach them through it. Support them when needed but ultimately leave them to find a reasonable solution to the problem.
I-Messages
Teach your child how to give an “I” message. The format looks like this, “I feel ___, when you ___, please___.” For example, I feel upset when you call me that name, please stop. This format places emphasis on how the child is feeling, and not on who is to blame.
Apologizing
Sometimes your child may be on the offending side of a conflict. It’s important that your child knows how to give an apology. Here is a helpful format. “You felt ___ when I ___, next time I will ___.” For example, you felt angry when I took your toy, next time I will ask before I borrow it.
Practice!
Use any opportunity to discuss conflict resolution with your child. If your child is struggling with conflict resolution, it may be helpful to “role play” how they could appropriately react to situations that they may face at school.
