In his 1980 essay "Solving for Pattern," the Kentucky writer & farmer Wendell Berry wrote about some of the differences between bad solutions & good solutions. A solution is bad if it makes the problem worse or causes new problems, acting destructively upon the larger patterns in which it is contained." The standards for a good solution include (but aren’t limited to) that good solutions accept limits, have wide margins of failure, are made by people with skin in the game, solve more than one problem, & are in harmony with the larger patterns.

ESFD has scheduled a Report Writing class, ambulance collections improve with timely report submission & report quality. Eagles Scouts & 30 Volunteers planted, mulched around Splash Park. Ball season is starting up, discussions about Sr. Center programming cautiously underway. MoDot has automated traffic signals on the west side of town, enabling a remote reset instead of physically driving to the area to make corrections.

Recommendations from PZ Commission: Local Historic District Design Guidelines replaces existing guidelines with one standard for all Districts; Renew 2-year Special Use Permit (SUP) for Vacation Rental @ 103 Temple; Initial 2-year SUP for Apiary @ 120 Bluff for production of honey, honey comb, other products; Initial 2-year SUP for Tattoo shop @ 1097 Italian Way; Preliminary & Final Plats for 1900 W 69 HWY & Splash Park & Appropriations.

John Potter, PT Fire Captain is celebrating a work anniversary this week - 27 years. John manages the Career Center Fire Service, EMT/Paramedic Program. Scott Guthrie, FF/Paramedic has been promoted to Fire Captain. Assistant Fire Chief Camron White finished upgrade of radio system to 800 mgHz, assisted by Police Lt. Larry Tarrant. We are grateful for their dedication & hard work. Highlighting community leaders serving on Historic Preservation Commission - David Adams (Construction), Rick DeFlon (Architect), Sylvia Eales (Realtor), & Betty Bissell, Darryl Couts, Marilyn Gerdes, & Dennis Hartman (Historians). Thank you for your leadership & preservation of our heritage. Your work has returned economic value to our oldest neighborhoods & Central Business District.
