senior family update

We are thrilled for all of you and eagerly anticipate the upcoming months filled with joy and celebration.

As such, we'd like to provide you with important information regarding graduation events, share dates and times, commencement behavior expectations, and dress code.

Please take note of the dates for each senior event. We are excited to share this wonderful time with you and your loved ones. High School Graduation is a momentous occasion, and we can't wait to partake in the fun-filled events that lie ahead!

Senior Dinner Dance is a seniors-only event held at Egypt Valley Country Club.

No outside guests are permitted.

This event will take place Friday, March 28th.

Doors will open @ 7:00 pm and dinner will be served at 7:30 pm

• Please decide on a table of friends you would like to sit with. Tables can range from 2 - 10 people but no more. Have ONE member of your group fill out the google form (this will be emailed out in the spring).
• Bring Mrs. Morrison (W17) $40 per person (cash or check made out to FHN) in an envelope with everyone's names on it.
• Table sign-up and payment must occur sometime between March 4th - 8th.
• Senior Dinner Dance is a semi-formal event. However, EVCC dress code does apply. No jeans or tennis shoes are permitted.

Share your post-high school plans (college attending, scholarships, honors/awards, military service, careers, gap year, etc.).

Parents and families are invited to attend this very special occasion.

Seniors are to report NO LATER than 8:30 am wearing gowns and stoles only (NO CAPS) .

• Seniors will pair with juniors and pass the light of leadership.

• School awards will be given at this time.

• A senior student ONLY luncheon will follow the assembly in the South Gym

SENIOR ELEMENTARY ALMA MATER WALK-THRU- 11:30 pm

Seniors are invited to meet up at their Forest Hills alma mater elementary schools to walk through the halls wearing their cap and gown for high-fives with the elementary students.
This is a senior student only event. Our elementary schools have asked that parents not follow their senior into the elementary schools for this event as it adds to the traffic and chaos.

The Senior Class of 2025 and their family members are invited to attend.

Due to limited space seniors will be allowed 4 tickets each for this event. Tickets are digital, please see below.

The evening will include the following:

• Senior speaker and a staff speaker

• Senior musical performances

• Senior scholarships awarded

• Senior video presentation

• A small reception will be held after the celebration

Seniors are to report by 6:00 pm

Seniors should wear FORMAL ATTIRE (NO CAPS OR GOWNS)

Only 1 order (of 4 tickets) per student ID# is allowed.

Orders will be monitored; any double orders will be canceled.

If your family is in need of extra tickets, we ask that you coordinate with fellow senior families that will not be using all of their allotted tickets. Many parents post their request for extra tickets on the FHN Class of 2025 Parent Group

Spoelhof Fieldhouse Complex in the Van Noord Arena

Located at 3195 Knight Way SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546

Seniors are to arrive no later than 6:00 p.m.

The commencement ceremony will begin promptly at 7:00 pm. Doors Open for guests at 6:00 pm.

Tickets will be provided to your senior immediately following Senior Celebration at the Fine Arts Center on Saturday, May 10th.

Any tickets not collected after Senior Celebration will be given to seniors during the commencement rehearsal the morning of May 12th, 2025.

If your family is in need of extra tickets, we ask that you coordinate with fellow senior families that will not be using all of their allotted tickets.

We will not have extra tickets in the office. Many parents post their request for extra tickets on the

The Commencement Ceremony will be live-streamed .

The link will be posted here as we get closer to the date.

Jim Hill Photography will take individual pictures of the 2025 graduates, which will be available for purchase.

We will send a link to preview photos approximately a week after the ceremony.

Graduation ceremonies are provided for those who wish to participate. They are dignified occasions, and we are confident that all graduates will dress and act appropriately. Graduates who do not meet the dress requirements will not be permitted to participate in the ceremonies.

Boys: Dark dress pants (NO jeans), collared shirt, tie, dress shoes, and dark socks
(NO athletic shoes, boots, or sandals).

Girls: Knee/calf-length dress, or skirt,/dress slacks and a blouse, dress shoes
(NO athletic shoes or boots). No corsages are to be worn on gowns.
Purses should be left with parents or at home.

Gowns - Should be pressed with a cool iron or steamed.

Caps - Caps are to be worn flat on the head and hair pinned, if necessary.

No decor is allowed on the caps.

10:00 am (sharp) Mandatory Commencement Ceremony Rehearsal at the Van Noord Arena.

Located at 3195 Knight Way SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546.

It is mandatory for all seniors to attend this rehearsal if you plan to participate in the commencement ceremony. The practice will last approximately two hours; this helps to ensure that the evening ceremony runs smoothly.

6:00 pm (sharp) - Seniors Arrive to Calvin University

Guests, please park in lots 1, 2, 3 and 4. Seats are first come/ first serve.

7:00 pm - Commencement Ceremony will begin promptly at 7:00 pm.

Recessional Note: We ask all our families and guests to remain seated during the recessional.

Please wait for all the graduates to exit the arena. You may meet your graduate in the lobby.

9:15 pm - Graduates board yellow busses one last time to head to the Senior All-Night Party surprise destination! Signup information coming soon!

Immediately after the commencement ceremony on Monday, May 12th, the Class of 2025 will be taken by school buses to a surprise venue for a safe and fun all-night party.
There will be food and activities for all personalities.

We want to remind our seniors of the importance of making good choices both in and out of school. It is important to keep in mind that any senior who violates FHN/District policies (i.e., use, possession, or sale of drugs or alcohol at any event leading up to commencement), or engages in any type of vandalism or prank at FHN, may impact their ability to participate in graduation ceremonies. Students on school grounds (other than during scheduled supervised activities) may also be subject to legal action. Families and the school must work together to supervise student activities leading up to graduation. We hope that students do not do anything to jeopardize their opportunity to be a part of all of the important and meaningful activities!

Student Exam Exemption Criteria:

• Students must be passing all classes.

• Students must have an 85% (or higher) in the class they are intending to not take the exam.

• Students cannot have any unexcused absences.

• Students cannot have more than two tardies per class.

• Students cannot have violated the student code of conduct.

• Students cannot have received more than one cell phone violation during second semester.

If all of these criteria are met (during second semester), you may waive your exams.

Summa Cum Laude (4.0+ GPA and above) Large Medal

Magna Cum Laude (3.8 - 3.99 GPA) Small Medal

Cum Laude (3.3 - 3.79 GPA) Silver Paw Pin

SEPTEMBER 29th - 30th

Senior Retreat (Camp Henry) -Students should arrive at school on Sunday by 9:15 am.

Students will return to school on Monday around 11:30 am.and should return home.

OCTOBER 9th

Senior Class meeting at 9:50 am in the auditorium

Jostens will present info regarding ordering caps, gowns and announcements.

MARCH 4th - 8th

Senior Dinner Dance Sign-up Week

Sign up in a group of 10 people per table. One group member will bring Mrs. Morrison the $400 and your list of names (which must include both first and last names).

MARCH 26th - 27th

Auditions for Commencement Ceremony Speakers.
The sign-up form will be sent out on a later date.

MARCH 28th

Senior Dinner Dance 7:00 pm at Egypt Valley ($40 per person)

APRIL 16th-18th

Prom Tickets will be available for purchase during both lunch periods.

MAY 2nd

Prom Assembly & voting for court
