Spartan Spotlight
May 2025
Dear Spartan Families,
As we head into the final stretch of the school year, I want to take a moment to share some important updates and celebrations happening at Fargo North High School throughout the month of May.
First, we continue to emphasize the importance of attendance and punctuality. Being on time to class has been a consistent focus for us this semester, and we encourage all students to finish the year strong by maintaining positive habits that set them up for success now and into the future.
We also want to maintain a strong academic focus as we close out the year. Students are encouraged to take full advantage of supports such as Spartan Period tutorials to strengthen their understanding and performance in their classes. In addition, our final Proficiency Day of the school year will be held on Thursday, June 5th. This is an excellent opportunity for students to demonstrate mastery and improve their academic standing before final grades are issued.
Wednesday, May 28th will be a day full of celebrations at Fargo North. We will begin the morning with our Academic Breakfast, where we will recognize students earning academic letters and scholarship awards. Following that, our seniors will participate in graduation walks through our feeder schools, inspiring younger students and celebrating the Class of 2025’s achievements. In the afternoon, our entire student body will enjoy a variety of school-wide activities to celebrate a year of hard work and perseverance.
Looking ahead, the Graduation Ceremony for the Class of 2025 will be held on Sunday, June 8th at 12:00 PM at the Fargodome. More detailed information regarding graduation will be shared with seniors and their families soon. This ceremony marks a significant milestone and we are excited to honor the incredible accomplishments of our graduating students.
During the week of May 5th - May 9th, we will also celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week. I encourage all families to take a moment to thank our teachers for the incredible work they do each day. Their commitment, passion, and care make a profound difference in the lives of our students.
Finally, the month of May will be filled with cocurricular and extracurricular activities as our students compete and perform across a variety of events. I encourage everyone to come out and support our Spartans as they showcase their talents and hard work. For the latest schedules and event details, please visit: Eastern Dakota Conference Activities Calendar.
Thank you for your ongoing support of Fargo North High School. Let’s work together to make these final weeks of the school year a time of great accomplishment and celebration for all of our students!
Go Spartans!
Sincerely,
Travis Christensen
Principal, Fargo North High School

Proficiency Day June 5
Our upcoming Proficiency Day on June 5 provides students with a dedicated opportunity to demonstrate their learning through missing or additional assessments. Here’s what you need to know:
- The threshold for mandatory attendance remains unchanged for these days. More details can be found in this Google Slide Deck.
- Students who are required to attend—or who voluntarily choose to attend—will have one 45-minute period per class to complete missing assessments, retake assessments, or complete additional assessments to provide the teacher with a clear body of evidence.
- Students will not be able to work beyond that scheduled period on assessments for the same class.
- To maximize success, students are strongly encouraged to use retake opportunities throughout the semester and Spartan Period for relearning prior to Proficiency Day.
- If a student meets all thresholds, their attendance would be optional on this day.
- Normal bus schedule will be followed.
We appreciate your support in reinforcing the importance of preparing ahead of time so students can make the most of these assessment opportunities.
Last Day of Classes
Thursday, June 5, 2025 is the last day of classes for students. All school and physical education lockers must be emptied before the student leaves/completes their school year. Any items left in the lockers will be thrown or donated. North High will not be responsible for items left in lockers.
Lost locks will be paid for by the student to whom the lock has been loaned. The charge for a lost lock is $5.00.
End of Year Check-In
We want to remind everyone that ALL MATERIALS ARE DUE BY THE LAST DAY OF SCHOOL (except PLDs for those enrolled in Summer School). This includes PLDs, PLD chargers, textbooks, as well as library books and equipment checked out. Any items that are not turned in by the last day of school will be marked lost and an invoice will be sent home.
Students can see what they have checked out by going to the card catalog and logging in (upper right corner). From there, click “My Info” on the blue ribbon. This is where you can see what is checked out, and if there are any fines on your account. These fines could be from PLD repairs, lost or damaged books/textbooks, lost PLD charger, etc.
A note to Seniors, all materials must be turned in or paid for in order to participate in the graduation ceremony. If in doubt, please have your student stop by the library or talk to their teacher.

Climate and Culture Survey
Fargo North High School is engaged in an ongoing continuous improvement process and a large part of that is ensuring that we can gather feedback from all stakeholder groups. With that in mind we are asking all Parents/Guardians to consider investing a few minutes to complete this Spring’s Climate and Culture Survey. Students will also be asked to take a similar survey at school on May 8th.
These surveys provide school leaders and teachers a window into the perceptions of all stakeholders. The results of this survey will help us identify areas of strength and those that need improvement in regard to the school’s climate and culture. The results will enable us to make improvements focused on building positive school culture
The window for this survey closes on May 19th. This parent/guardian survey is anonymous, takes about 15 minutes to complete, and is smartphone compatible, too.

Attention Junior Families
This year is the first year since 2009 that the ACT test was not mandated for juniors to take during the school day. The ACT test may still be used for admission to post-secondary schools and scholarship requirements. Because students were not required to take the exam this year, it is important for families to help their student sign up for the test if they wish to take it. It’s important to know, the ND Scholarship still requires a score of a 24 composite on the ACT to be eligible for the $6,000 scholarship to attend a ND school.
If your student is interested in taking the ACT, please note the next available test is quickly approaching in June with a registration deadline of May 9. Students can register for the ACT by going to www.act.org. If your student qualifies for free/reduced lunches a fee waiver can be provided for the fees in the Counseling and Career Center.
Students can also check their progress towards the ND Scholarship by speaking with Tracy Cramer, Career Advisor or by logging in to PowerSchool and going to the Choice Ready link, then choosing Choice Ready Scholarship from the drop down menu. This will help students determine whether or not they should take the ACT for the ND Scholarship.
ACT/SAT Exam Schedule
The ACT and SAT are college entrance tests that maybe required by 4-year colleges. Students should check with the specific school they plan to apply to for the test needed. These tests are generally taken during the latter part of a student’s junior year and during their senior year.
If your student qualifies for free/reduced lunch and financial assistance is needed, please see your school counselor for a fee waiver.
Register on the websites for the tests at: www.actstudent.org & www.collegeboard.com.
Below are the following test dates and registration deadlines:
ACT Exam Schedule
North High School Code: 350-568
ACT Basic Fee: $69.00 ACT Plus Writing Fee: $94.00
Late Registration Additional Fee: $38.00
SAT Exam Schedule

North Dakota Scholarship
This is an opportunity for a $6,000 Scholarship and is aimed at retaining college students in North Dakota. This scholarship may be used for any North Dakota college or university; any 2-year technical school; or used towards expenses at a welding or hair salon school. The $6,000 is distributed over four years ($750/semester). Click here for more information. Students can view their current progress toward the North Dakota Scholarship in PowerSchool. The easiest way to apply is in PowerSchool in the ND Education Portal which can be found in Applications (top-right corner of PowerSchool). You can also apply using this link. If you apply through this link, you will need to create an account. Deadline to apply is June 6, 2025.
If you qualify for the scholarship, students who plan to attend an out-of-state college or university are still encouraged to apply before the deadline. Students may defer the scholarship and use it for up to six years after high school graduation. It could be used if you transfer back or attend graduate school in North Dakota, provided all eligibility criteria are met.
2025-2026 Dual Credit math courses/ COLLEGE ALGEBRA

NDSCS representatives will be available in room 102 from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm to assist with application to NDSCS and registration for College Algebra ONLY. Four Year Academic Plans
Parents/guardians and students can request to meet with a school counselor annually to review, discuss, and revise four-year academic plans for graduation. Families can call the North High counseling office, 446-2412, for an appointment, or students can come to the counseling office to set up a time. FPS school counselors visit classrooms several times during grades 8-12, to develop and revise academic plans. Each year at FNH, students update their 4-year plan during course registration.
The first visit occurs during the spring of 8th grade, when all students create their first high school four-year academic plan in PowerSchool. After that, students are encouraged to maintain and update the data in their plans.
During registration class visits, students in grades 9-11 are given the resources to count credits, rework their academic plans and establish course work for the following year. During this class visit, students meet individually with their counselors.
One final credit count and review of the academic plan is completed in the fall of 12th grade.
Whenever a student or parent/guardian initiates an inquiry about credits earned, graduation status, or course selection, counselors are eager to discuss academic planning options.

Plan
This spring we have started a new Lunch & Learn Series called PLAN - Prepare for Life After North. This is an opportunity for students to learn about different topics to help them plan for their future. Students are welcome to attend any sessions that are of interest to them.
Each session will be offered during all three lunches and will consist of a 15-minute presentation/Q&A. Start times for the presentations: Lunch 1 – 11:25am, Lunch 2 – 12:15pm, or Lunch 3 – 1:05pm. All PLAN sessions will be in Room 102. Grab your lunch and bring it with you or come during your open period. No need to sign up. All students are welcome to attend.
