Ms. Steinberg's Weekly News
Week of October 10th, 2016
Happy Friday!
Take a look at our week:
Language arts
This week we reviewed all the high-frequency sight words we have learned so far through games. We reviewed main idea. One way we did this was by reading an article in Scholastic News then looking for the main idea within the article. Students wrote the main idea and supporting details. We read some non-fiction books about animals and students answered comprehensions questions. We worked on handwriting within the lines. We also completed our personal narratives. Students wrote about sports events, vacations and much more!
Math
In Math we continued working on subtraction vocabulary. Hopefully you are at home too! We played subtraction games on abcyah.com and through board games. We used manipulatives to subtract such as dominoes and pennies. We played "feed the shark" to work on subtraction word problems. When students got the correct difference they got to "feed the shark". Students created a subtraction problem, solved it and wrote how they solved it in their math journals.
Social Studies
Students collaborated to make their U.S. Symbols posters! Each team member had a specific role in helping the team. The teams did a great job working together! They got an opportunity to share their poster with the class. We also finished writing a summary of U.S. Symbol facts and took a quiz on the symbols.
