Exploring Elementary English Curriculum
Teachers at Crooked River Elementary School provide families an update on the new English Language Arts Curriculum that launched at the beginning of the the school year. In this informative six-part series, families will learn the basics of the curriculum and the tools teachers use to improve reading, writing, and speaking skills. Join us as we explore what a typical day looks like in the classroom with Wit & Wisdom and Fundations!
How is that possible? There's been confusion this year thanks to different national celebration calendars. Teacher Appreciation Week is typically the first week of May. However, some organizations consider Sunday the first day of the week, and since May 1st fell on a Monday this year, some calendars scheduled Teacher Appreciation Week May 8th-12th.
We're solving this problem by celebrating our incredible teachers for two weeks! Some buildings celebrated this week, and others will celebrate next week. If you or your child has a favorite teacher, now would be a great time to send them a note, give them a gift, or offer your gratitude by saying things like "Thank you" or "We appreciate you."

Crooked River Elementary Offers an After-School Guitar Club! πΈπ΅
The talented Mrs. Pascuzzi at Crooked River Elementary School teaches beginning guitar lessons as one of the many after-school clubs offered throughout our school district. And it's pretty popular! Students are learning how to hold a guitar properly, the notes of each string, stay on beat, and basic strumming patterns. And, of course, a little music theory as well!
We visited her classroom recently, and it's so cool what the students are learning. Thanks, Mrs. Pascuzzi, for offering such a fun after-school club!
Cowboy Up! π€ π
Elementary students enjoyed a fun and positive presentation this month about the history of rodeos and what it means to be a Cowboy. It's through a national program called Cowboys & Kids, made possible by the Crooked River Round Up Foundation.
Motivational Speaker Penny Conway talked about Western heritage and the qualities Americans hold in high regard: rugged individualism, freedom, honesty, patriotism, and pride in achievement. She also encouraged students to be kind, thoughtful, generous, and good community members. All characteristics of real Cowboys and Cowgirls!
Perfect Weather for the 2023 Badge Dash πββοΈπββοΈ
Badger Dash was incredibly fun. Congratulations to our grade level winners who were able to put a pie in their choice of teachers face. WHAT A DAY! HUGE shoutout to the amazing BBE staff for making it a great day. Heartfelt thanks to Mr. Yuma - the guy who makes it happen!
CCMS Students Place 2nd at State Math Competition
Congratulations to Mr. Matt Fischer and his team of math students who showed off their math skills at the one-day Pentagames on Friday, April 29th, in Hermiston.
Here's what Mr. Fischer said about the competition:
"Our team was divided into three small teams (a seventh-grade team, an eighth-grade pre-algebra team, and an algebra team) and competed against students in those groups from other schools. Each of our three teams finished in second place in their division. The seventh-grade team was: Adam Crass, Weston Coshow, and Calvin Woolsey. Weston finished first overall as an individual for the 7th-grade team. The pre-algebra team was: Marissa Jarrell, Cairo Wrolson, and Cole Turner. Marissa placed 5th overall as an individual, and Cole placed first overall. The algebra team was: Rylin Olson, Piper Hallam, and Kannon Whiting. Kannon got second overall as an individual. They came away with many trophies and medals, and seeing them do so well was exciting."
