True Happiness Comes From God

Scriptures: Proverbs 3:13-18, Ecclesiastes 2:10-11, Ecclesiastes 2:26, Nehemiah 8:10

Bottom Line: Our growing wisdom brings God happiness.

What's That to Me? Our true happiness comes from God, not things in this world. The more we focus on Him, the happier we become.

This week we finished up our study of Proverbs: How to be Wise. It was a powerful and super practical lesson. The main discussions and activities centered around the question, "What makes you happy?" and "Why?"

The world tells us what is supposed to make us happy. We see it every day in advertisements and discuss the latest and greatest "things" with our friends and family. But through our time in Scripture this week, we learned that most of the things of this world that we think will make us happy are often just distractions that lead us away from true, lasting happiness: a relationship with Jesus.

Remember that thing that you HAD TO HAVE last Christmas? You just KNEW that it would bring you joy beyond your widest dreams and fulfill your every happiness! Has it? What is it worth to you now? What will it be worth to you in 10 years?

True joy and happiness come from within - not from the stuff or the circumstances of the world. When we know Jesus, we know how much we are loved, protected, and cared for - no matter what is happening around us. Happiness that cannot be lost or taken away from us comes from knowing, loving, and trusting Him!

If you do nothing else this week to connect with your child about spiritual matters, WATCH THIS VIDEO WITH THEM and just have a conversation about the truths that Francis Chan shares. We (adults and children alike) need to be reminded daily that our focus does not need to be centered on our own comfort, pleasure, or happiness, but on Christ.
