Discovery Update
November 1, 2019
Letter From the Principal
Dear Parents,
I want to start with a huge shout out to our PTO. Our Discovery PTO team has worked hard to support our students through our many school events. They have also poured out love on our teachers providing meals, snacks and inspiration.
During conferences we had an amazing book fair hosted by PTO. Thank you to all who both helped with this event and supported it through purchasing books for your family. Funds raised during our book fair support funding books for the library as well as books for the classroom and for students with financial need. We have such a supportive community at Discovery. I truly don’t think there is any goal we can’t accomplish when we work together. Thank you!
We focused on safety this month. PTO volunteers and Educational Assistants worked together to refill our emergency preparedness kits in each classroom. We hope there is never an emergency that would cause us to need these supplies, but in the event there is we will be glad of this preparation. In addition to having supplies ready, we practiced fire safety drills and plan to have an earthquake drill soon.
Finally, I hope you have a wonderful time with your family this month. We have some fun events planned at school, so take a look at the calendar in this newsletter as well as communications from your child's teacher and join us when you can.

Food Drive
Tom and Tina Turkey are hosting a food drive, and they're counting on you to give them a beautiful feathered tail to decorate the hall of Discovery! For every 10 items your class brings, they'll get a feather. For every 100 items, they'll get a GLITTER feather! The class in each grade that brings the most items will get to celebrate with a kindness party. As a school, our goal is 3500 items -- if we reach this goal, we'll have a crazy hair day on November 27th!
What can you bring?
Canned foods (veggies, tuna, soup), individually packaged foods (granola bars, oatmeal, fruit cups, cereal), and non-food items (toothpaste, paper towels, diapers).
Items will benefit Mountain View Community Center and the Fife Family Resource Center.
**Each item will be counted individually, but you don't have to separate them. For example, a box of 12 juice boxes = 12 items!
