CAMP: Taste & See
Title: Taste and See
Keywords/Themes: 6 sermon series on what it means to taste and see the Gospel that changes
everything. Students are challenged to see the beauty of the gospel and realize that nothing
compares, loves them and fulfills them other than the love of Jesus.
Needs/Dreams/Direction Being Covered:
● Students are challenged in seeing where they are putting their time, talents and treasures in.
● Students are challenged to see Jesus as more precious and once you experience Him
everything changes. Head knowledge is connected with heart knowledge.
● Students give up idols, and sin.
Guiding Your Small Groups to the Message
- Best thing to do is first look over the whole message guide in order to get a sense of the overall flow and idea where the speaker is going. Then spend a little bit of time praying that the Lord would open your eyes to those ideas and concepts yourself.
- BEFORE a message (session time), challenge your group to read the passage before and give them a few things to look for (i.e. main idea, questions, application, connecting points, etc.) Again, you may need to assume that many of your students have never formally been taught how to sit through a session or know how to listen to a message. You may need to give them pointers as to what to do in the session.
- DURING a message, depends on proximity, you may want to check in and see how they are doing. Are they confused? Are they engaged? Are they completely distracted? Use your best judgment as to whether you want to jot down a note or question for them, give them some water, or note something for small group time. Then you, yourself, need to consider which points to highlight in small group as it relates to your group (obviously, the better you know your group, the better you'll know which questions or comments to ask).
- AFTER a message is the small group time where you get to bring back all the thoughts, questions, and comments from the message. You may want to go around and ask thoughts or you can have 1 question that a few of them answer. In terms of teaching method, you can have a student lead the discussion, you can have them break off into pairs, you can do a "verse of the day" on Instagram with the verse they went through. Be creative in talking about the message but also applying the message. Then, in order to prepare for the next session, do #2 again. Give them some homework before the session so that they can get ready for the next session. Also, just the time after to help guide any students if they struggled with any of these elements.
