Fall is on the Way!
It has been a wonderful start to our school year! Thank you to all the families who are making safety a priority during drop-off and pick-up times. The loading and unloading zones are moving more smoothly, and we are seeing fewer U-turns in front of the school, which helps keep everyone safe. Please continue to use caution whenever you drive through a school zone.
This month, we are excited to kick off our Fall Enrichment fundraiser, our biggest fundraiser of the year! The funds raised will provide essential support to our classrooms and the school as a whole. Flyers were sent home on Friday, September 1st, and we’ve also included the information below. As we reach each fundraising goal, the entire school will earn incentives, which all students will benefit from. We appreciate any donation amount.
As we continue to settle into the school year, I encourage you to establish routines at home with your family. Routines can help maintain expectations and create an environment where children thrive. For example, children who have a consistent bedtime routine tend to sleep better. Simple habits like showering, brushing their teeth, and reading a book quietly before bed can signal to their brains that it's time to settle down. Reducing blue light exposure from electronics and TV an hour before bedtime can also improve sleep. Studies have shown that a good night's rest can help students stay focused and perform better in their studies. We hope these tips help you set up routines that make your evenings go smoothly.
As always, below you will find a wealth of information about everything happening at Maple Hill in the month of September. I hope you find these resources helpful.
Kind Regards,
Ms. McNeil
Principal at Maple Hill

September Hawk Character Trait: Responsibility
This month's SEL enrichment lesson will focus on the character trait of responsibility. Students will learn about responsible decision-making, problem-solving, setting goals, and what leadership looks and sounds like. Our lessons will include engaging activities, mindful discussions, and opportunities to collaborate with peers to understand the differences between responsible and irresponsible choices. We hope your child will better understand what responsibility looks like in school, at home, and in the community. Thank you for joining me and for your help in building these important life skills. I know that our partnership will positively impact your child.

Family Activity Ideas:
Here are some activities you can do as a family that promote a sense of responsibility and leadership for your child:
Start a Chore Chart: Make an incentivized chart of age-appropriate responsibilities your child can do to help out around the house. Use stickers and stamps, or draw in stars/happy faces upon completing each item. At the end of the week, reward and praise your child for being responsible.
Encourage Goal Setting: Achieving goals motivates kids to do and become more. Students who set goals and achieve them in the long run build self-confidence. These can be personal goals or academic goals, such as learning to tie their shoes, starting a new sport or learning to play music, reading chapter books, making new friends, or starting a clothing or food drive.
Team Building Activities: Teamwork helps students build communication skills as they collaborate and strategize. As student groups work together to conquer problems, student confidence grows. Front of School Safety Reminders Slide Show
As we commence the school year, it's crucial that we all familiarize ourselves with the safety reminders. The safety of our students is our topmost priority. Please take a moment to watch the brief video below and share it with anyone who might be involved in picking up or dropping off your child at school.
Also, ensure your child knows who is picking them up each day and has a designated meeting spot so they are confident about where to meet. TK-1st grade students need to be picked up at the gate by an adult.
Please DO NOT encourage your child to wait at the park across the street. There is no adult supervision there. Instead, pick a spot in front of the school to meet your child. Any child who has not been picked up and is still on campus after 15 minutes will be brought into the office to call home.

2024-2025 School Year- Free Breakfast and Lunch
This year, students will have the opportunity to receive a free breakfast and a free lunch at school. Breakfast is served "before the bell" from 7:45 to 8:00 a.m. Students need to know their lunch ID numbers or scan a lunch card provided by their teacher to receive breakfast.
