Mr. Powers Notes
February is CTE month, and we are excited to share with our families and the community the great things that are happening at Blue River Career Programs. CTE, which stands for Career and Technical Education, is a vital part of a student's education today. With the thirteen different programs we offer, we have something for every student regardless of their chosen career path after high school. We hope you will join us on Monday, February 24th for our Open House from 5:00 - 6:30 PM as we celebrate our programs along with having various vendors and business partners to learn about the trades in our community.

2nd Semester Reminders
1. Students are not to be on their cell phones during educational hours. We are allowing them to have them before class starts, during their breaks, and after class time has ended. Please remind your students of this and if you need to reach your student for any reason, please call the school at
317-392-4191.
2. Everything that we do here at BRCP is to set our students up for what's next, whether they are going to college or starting a career. One area that we are still trying to help our students with is attendance. Several students have had issues with their attendance for 1st semester. If your student is out for any reason, please give us a call to the BRCP attendance line. Also, if your student goes to the doctor, please have them grab two doctor's notes, one for their home school and one for BRCP. That will help us as we move forward.
We look forward to a great semester!

January 2025 Students of the Month
Health Sciences CNA AM - Kyndra King, Junior at Southwestern High School
Kyndra works hard both in the classroom and at the clinical site. Not only does she work hard to be successful, but she doesn’t hesitate to lend a hand to help other students be successful. The effort she puts into her in class work reflects in her grades. She has a true desire for the work she is doing with the geriatric population at Willows. This is evident through the care she provides the residents and the concern she has for them.
Health Science CNA PM - LilliAnn Conway, Sophomore at Shelbyville High School
LilliAnn works very efficiently with any task presented to her. She is a leader to those around her. Her priorities to be successful are shown by her actions. Through her work at clinical, she has developed a passion to work specifically with the dementia care residents. Both residents and staff commend her work.
Construction Trades AM - Brady Ellison, Junior at Morristown High School
Brady is a first year student that strives to be his best. Brady goes above and beyond his duties daily. He always picks up tools laying out and puts them away without being asked. Brady always asks what we are doing for the day and if we need to finish up unfinished projects. Brady is in tune with what is going on and enjoys working with his hands.
Construction Trades PM - Zackary Petitt, Senior at Shelbyville High School
Zack is a 2nd yr. student and is eager to learn and apply that knowledge and skill towards the task at hand. Zack built a house with me last year and learned a lot of things that others didn’t, he understands the why we do what we do in that order or process. Zach listens and pays attention to directions and has leadership skills.

January 2025 Alumni of the Month
Here is our January 2025 Alumni of the Month: Jill Goodwin
Jill is a 1998 graduate of Shelbyville High School. Jill attended BRCP in 1996-1997 with the Business Center and 1997-1998 through our Co-op/Work Based Learning Program.
In what ways did BRCP have an impact on you?
-Jill responded, "BRCP not only provided me with an education focused on business but also introduced me to the company in which I have built my career. I had expressed interest in the Co-op/work-based learning course near the completion of the Business Center course I attended and was introduced to several companies that supported the work-based learning program at BRCP. After job shadowing and interviewing at a few of these companies, I was offered and accepted a temporary co-op position at what was then known as Standard Register. That single opportunity led to a full-time position where I was able to advance from clerical roles to management roles and eventually to my current role as Director of Operations of that same company which is now known as Taylor."
What advice would you give BRCP students today?
-Jill responded, "Education is important. Continued learning beyond your formal education is even more important. Be a student of your occupation. Learn all you can about the industry, service, or field you are in and then use that knowledge to advance and succeed."
A big congratulations to Jill and all that she has accomplished!
