From Mrs. Woodring
The week after next we will have students take the spring diagnostic of iReady, beginning Tuesday, May 2 with reading. This week and last teachers are talking to students about their data and the importance of trying hard during these tests, to show all the learning that takes place. Please talk to your son or daughter to encourage their effort as well. Thank you for your partnership.
Also in culminating our OBOS we will have various activities done beginning in May. As many of you participated over the winter months, families and staff read the One Book, One School title 7 Wonders of Sassafras Springs.
For a culmination we will integrate some activities in art, have all classes go on a walking field trip to the St. Charles History Museum, and celebrate Friday, May 12 with Root Beer during lunchtime. (If you want your child to opt out of the root beer, please email michelle.woodring@d303.org.)
During art starting May 3 classes will create artwork that represents some of the simple creations Eban discovered during his search for the wonders. Students in grades K-1 will make paper weaving, and students in grades 2-5 will create clothespin dolls. We will do this during art class over the period of two weeks with Ms. An leading classes and parent volunteers helping, please email michelle.woodring@d303.org if you are able to volunteer the first week of May; Wed.-Friday.
Over the next two weeks, my plan is to offer read aloud of the chapter, to refresh students' memory or for those that were not able to read the book, so they can understand and enjoy the activities. This will also serve as minutes for those that need to catch up on their Ozzie minutes.

Calling All 2nd Grade Musicians!
Over the next few weeks, every current 2nd grader will get the chance to hear a performance by members of our school orchestra AND try each of the instruments offered in our orchestra program: Violin, Viola, Cello, and Bass. Nearly 1,000 children across D303 elementary schools are involved in our elementary orchestra program!
If your child is interested in joining us, please mark your calendar for our NEW Orchestra Parent Information meeting! At the virtual meeting, you will meet your orchestra director, learn details about the program, how to register, and how to rent an instrument. Each meeting will present the same information, so please join us when you can. We look forward to meeting with you. Please join us for one of these meetings:

Data Dashboard
D303 Administration has worked with the Board of Education to establish a routine summary on the health of District 303 through a Data Dashboard. MEDICAL FORMS AND MEDICATION
Dear Parents,
It’s hard to believe there are only a few weeks of school left. This is a reminder that you will need to come to school to pick up your child's medication by the last day of school which is Friday, May 26th. Medications that are not picked up at the end of the year will be disposed of according to the D303 policy. This policy also does not allow medication to remain in the health office over the summer for reuse in the fall. Medication must be picked up by a parent or adult designee with the parent’s permission.
Looking ahead to the 2023-2024 school year, if your child requires medication or any action plans, your child will need new physician orders and action plans for the school year. Ideally have the physician date the forms following the last day of school. Forms can be found under health services on the D303 site or linked directly here:
Students entering into kindergarten or 2nd grade will need a dental examination and form completed within 18 months of May 15th, 2024. Current 2nd grade students require a dental examination and form completed within 18 months of May 15th, 2023. A vision examination and form is also required for incoming kindergarten students as well as a physical examination and form.
These forms can be submitted to the main office or emailed to the school nurse at christy.mathern@d303.org. Please reach out if you have any questions. The health office direct line is 331-228-2504.
Thank you!

Family Contact Info - Please verify for your family!
This week’s first snow is a great reminder to make sure the contact information you’ve provided the District is up-to-date. We want to ensure you’re getting timely alerts on inclement weather operations and other important notifications. Please take a moment to do the following:
View Notification Preferences/Enable Text Messages
District 303 will send notifications to families through the ParentLink system by text message, phone call and email based on your settings. Parents/guardians can view and edit their contact settings through the Home Access Center.
To receive timely emergency communications, we strongly encourage families to enable text notifications. For most people, this is the fastest way to receive and view important messages. Here’s how:
- From the HAC main menu, select the “registration” tab to view your contact settings
- Select the “edit” button to change your contact settings
- To enable text message notifications, enter your cell phone number in the Cell/Text field
- Select the “save” button
