Parkview Elementary Weekly News
September 22, 2024
Dear Parkview Families,
Thank you to all of the families who came to our Open House last week! We felt a great energy in the building and appreciate the time everyone took from busy schedules to come and see where your student has been working so hard at school.
As we concluded our third week of the new school year, students are really getting to know their classroom communities. All classrooms started the year with the book Our Class is a Family, by Shannon Olsen, which focuses on a school community. Our first school-wide display is complete and we will proudly display this collaborative project that represents all of our students, all year.
Classrooms will continue working on their hopes and dreams for the months ahead and what they want their common agreements to be for their classrooms. These efforts will give students ownership in their classroom and support proactive problem-solving skills that we all can use to learn together.
We are implementing our new curriculum in Literacy and Math, and continuing with Science in grades 3-5, new Science in K-2. There is a lot happening and it is exciting for our staff and our students. We thank you for your continued support as we want to do the very best we can to help all of our students achieve to the highest learning outcomes.
Have a great week!
Sincerely,
Nicole Garcia, Principal
Update on Cellphone and Smartwatch Policy
We have a slight change to our initial policy at Parkview. We have asked students to leave cell phones and smartwatches at home. If they are brought to school, cell phones and smartwatches will be turned off and kept in back packs during the school day. If you need to contact your student, please call the school office and we will get a message to them for you.
Devices may be turned on again when the students leave the building at the end of the school day. Students have been advised of this policy, and we will appreciate your follow through at home. Please be aware that Parkview is not responsible for any lost or stolen items. We have discouraged students from bringing cellphones and smartwatches to school and we will take them away from students if they are not following the policy.
If your student calls or texts you during the school day, they are doing this without permission and against our policy. We would ask that you please call the office and ask for assistance from our staff rather than coming to school to pick up your student. This allows us to work together to support what the student needs.
Thank you for your support.
Core Curriculum for Elementary Students
Below is a brief description of the new comprehensive core curriculum for all elementary students. You will see and hear more about these resources through the school year from your student and through school communication. I will be sharing more information about our new curriculum in upcoming newsletters.
Parkview T Shirts for All Students!
Our Parkview Back to School T-Shirts are $5.50 each.
Please order using the directions for the school store for Parkview here.
Scholarships are available for families who are experiencing financial hardship. Please use this link to order a t-shirt with a scholarship https://forms.gle/KFGPRqWosbikCdYcA
We hope all of our students could have a shirt this year as they will be wearing them for School Spirit Days all year long and when students go on field trips as a class to stay together.
Educational Benefits Application is Important for our school!
All families are encouraged to complete an Educational Benefits Application, formerly the free and reduced-price meals application. Your children may qualify! Applications for the 2024-25 school year are available.
iPad Optional Protection Plan
District 196 offers an optional Protection Plan to families for $20 per iPad to cover the cost of potential theft/damage throughout the school year. The plan is free for families who qualify for the Educational Benefits Program so it is highly recommended to first apply online for that program in order to have the discount applied when purchasing the protection plan.
Go to the EduTrack Connect landing page to log in.
More information about the iPad Optional Protection Plan can be found at the link below, which also includes translation in Spanish and Somali. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1oMBJN9Z8bY7rY1ZhtnQg5I-s41uBOkMShoCi1PExHhg/edit
