Attendance Matters
Attendance is crucial at the elementary level for several reasons that impact both short-term learning and long-term development. We need your help in ensuring our students are present and ready to learn everyday.
Current Attendance rate: August 21 to 9/13: 97.5%
Daily Goal: 97% of students present
Difference between a Truancy and Chronic Absence :
While chronic absence presents academic challenges for students not in class, when it reaches high levels in a classroom or school, all students may suffer because the resulting classroom hampers teachers’ ability to engage all students and meet their learning needs. Missing 10%, or more than two days a month of school, can impact a child’s learning, social development and take them off track for developing attendance habits critical to success in school
What happens when a child has a high number of absences?
Regular attendance is not only critical for academic success but also a legal requirement under California Education Code 48200.
In accordance with Board Policy 5113 (a) and Education Code 48205, we understand that illnesses and doctor appointments are valid reasons for being absent; however it is our responsibility to notify you when absences become excessive. Please be aware that personal absences or absences due to vacations are unexcused.
Step 1: Families will receive a SART (Student Attendance Review Team) letter where a mandatory meeting will be scheduled with our school's Attendance Review Team to examine the reasons for the absences and to develop a strategic plan to improve attendance.
Step 2: Referral to School Attendance Review Board (SARB): Should absences persist without valid excuse, a referral to the SARB will be held in the Office of Student and Community Services. The SARB will collaborate with you to ensure compliance with attendance requirements.
Step 3: Legal Consequences: Continued non-compliance with attendance laws may result in referral to the local district attorney’s office for possible prosecution under state law.
To mitigate any further action, it is imperative that you ensure your child attends school consistently. Should there be any underlying issues contributing to these absences, we urge you to contact us immediately. Our office is prepared to provide the necessary support to address and resolve any barriers to regular attendance.

Get to Know our Programs
Your child is taking part in classroom lessons from Common Sense Education. Common
Sense helps kids learn the habits and skills they need to use technology safely and
responsibly in school, at home, and beyond.
WHAT IS DIGITAL CITIZENSHIP?
Kids today may seem like experts at using technology, but the digital world requires all kinds of skills and habits that kids don’t just pick up as they go. Digital citizenship helps them learn those skills. The Common Sense lessons help kids in grades K–2 develop healthy media habits and learn how to be safe online. Lessons for kids in grades 3–5 continue to focus on screen time and online safety. Older kids also learn about how to recognize cyberbullying, what is and isn’t OK to share online, and how to find credible news and information.
WHAT FAMILIES CAN DO?
Common Sense Education provides resources to help you support your kid’s learning. As we
teach these lessons in class, we’ll be sending home tip sheets, videos, and activities for you to
do with your kids. You can visit the Common Sense website at www.commonsensemedia.org
for more.
Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions. Working together with Common
Sense Education, we can prepare today’s kids to think critically and use tech in positive,
creative, and powerful ways.
