Message from Mr. Burns
Hi Wims Families,
Can you believe that we are almost done with March? I am still looking for the weather to warm up a little more and start having the flowers bloom!
As we head into April, our Maryland Comprehensive Assessment Program begins for our Grade 3-5 students. Please see our testing schedule below for your child's testing dates. It is important that students attend school on those testing dates. If you have any questions about the testing schedule, please feel free to reach out to Mr. Prin.
Special Shout Out: For the past couple of weeks, I had a student share with me every day that her birthday was coming up. Since today is the day, I wanted to wish Rosie a special happy "6th" birthday:)
Have a great week!
-Mr. Burns
Maryland Comprehensive Assessment Program (MCAP)
Students in grades 3, 4, and 5 will participate in the Maryland Comprehensive Assessment Program (MCAP) which includes four days of English Language Arts (ELA) testing and two days of Math testing. All testing will take place in the morning between the hours or 9:00 and 11:00 am. The specific dates and test contents are listed below by grade level:
Grades 4 & 5:
- ELA: 4/7, 4/9, 4/10, 4/11
- Math: 5/7, 5/8
Grade 3:
- ELA: 4/28, 4/30, 5/1, 5/2
- Math: 5/12, 5/14
Students who are absent on any testing days will complete make-up testing sometime in May. If you are interested in learning more about MCAP or previewing sample test questions, you can learn more here. Families will be mailed their students' results in late summer / early fall.
Attention Families of 4th Grade Students
In an effort to address the rising concerns around our students' mental health status, Montgomery County Public Schools will implement the voluntary BASC-3 Behavioral and Emotional Screening System (BESS) mental health screening tool at schools. Your student should have come home on Thursday (3/20/25) with a packet explaining more about this mental health screener as well as a yellow consent form. Please sign and return the yellow permission slip to your child's teacher indicating if you would or would not like to give consent for your student to take this screener. Please find copies of both documents attached to this email for your reference. If you would like to request these documents translated in other languages, please reach out to our School Counselor, Mrs. Ioli.

From the PTA Board
Dear Wildcats,
We hope you had a great weekend!
This is the last week to submit a nomination for the next Wilson Wims PTA President and Vice President! Self-nominations are welcome and encouraged. In the past few years since COVID, we have built a strong PTA through friendship, support, respect, and a strong base of volunteers and committee chairs. Our PTA is truly a team and strives to make our Executive Board feel supported. Our diversity enriches our WWES community, and we need new parents or caregivers to bring fresh ideas to the PTA. If this is you or someone that you know, please click the nomination link below by March 28.
The Bingo Night event scheduled for April 4 has sold out. We are still in need of a few gift cards and other prizes, concession donations, and a couple of volunteers. If any of our 5th grade families (or any grade level) can help, we would be grateful. All funds raised through Bingo Night are designated for our 5th Grade Class promotional activities and we look forward to giving them the very best Wildcat send off!
Have a wonderful week!
~ Ashley Zuraf, President

BOGO BOOK FAIR: APRIL 7 - 11
Join us for the final book fair of the 2024-2025 school year! All books (and other items) will be Buy One, Get One (equal or lesser valued item) FREE. To give our students the best book fair, we need volunteers. Please sign up HERE to volunteer for school day or evening hours. If we are unable to fill a timeslot, those shopping hours will have to be cancelled. School-day volunteers must have completed the online Recognizing Child Abuse and Neglect Training via their ParentVUE account.
Now is the time to set up your students’ e-wallet. E-wallet is the easiest way to shop at the book fair and prevents your student from carrying cash. Visit the Wims Book Fair homepage to create an account. Any funds that are unused at the end of the book fair can be used to shop online or at the next book fair. When creating a new e-wallet for this BOGO fair, any leftover funds from the previous fair will be available to apply to your account. If you have any questions, please contact Danni Ibarra, Chair.
