Pike Central High School
NOVEMBER
Message from Principal Gaffney
Dear Charger Community,
As the vibrant colors of fall fade and we set our clocks back in anticipation of winter, it’s clear that the seasons are changing. Pumpkins will soon make way for Christmas trees as we power forward toward the New Year. It’s remarkable how swiftly the 2024-2025 school year has passed, bringing us close to the halfway point. We’ve achieved so much together and created wonderful memories that will last a lifetime. We are truly blessed with an incredible staff dedicated to supporting and inspiring our students’ success.
With the change in seasons comes updates in educational requirements from the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE). We kindly ask for the continued support of parents and guardians to ensure your child is attending school each day and arriving on time. The IDOE has established a standard of 94% attendance, and we are obligated to report truancy to the relevant public agencies. Your engagement and active involvement are vital as your student navigates and selects their diploma pathway.
Our commitment is to work together to create the best possible future for your child, fostering joy and productivity in every step of their educational journey.
Take a look below at the exciting learning opportunities and experiences that our Chargers are enjoying.
Have a blessed Thanksgiving with family and friends.

Fire Science
The Pike Central Fire Science class was busy with skills the past two weeks. Students were using what they learned in the classroom and putting it to practical use. The students from Jasper, Southridge and Pike Central practiced multiple disciplines. For fire hose and nozzles they learned how different stream patterns effected the reach of the water, how wind could be an issue on the fire ground and how much nozzle reaction pushed back on them while flowing water. As the they flowed 100 gallons of water per minute, it feels like approximately 50 pounds is pushing back on them.
The fire class also took advantage of the nice weather to drive through an emergency vehicle operations course (EVOC). This includes different course layouts to test the skills of the drivers. The students learn to understand the dynamics of driving a large vehicle in different situations. Some cones didn’t fair so well and with tradition, any cone a student runs over they have to sign it.
They also conducted a small doll house burn to discuss fire dynamics and ventilation!
Trunk or Treat & Haunted Hallways
The Pike Central Student Government had our annual Trunk or Treat & Haunted Hallways. We had a great turnout and the students had a great time!
