A Message from Our Principal
Dear Farnham Families,
Today, the Cambrian School District, along with millions of others, took part in a significant event: the largest earthquake drill in history, ShakeOut! This event is a crucial step in our preparedness for potential earthquakes.
The International ShakeOut Day is a day of individual and community events featuring the largest earthquake drill ever. It is organized to inspire others to get ready for big earthquakes and to prevent disasters from becoming catastrophes. What we do to prepare now will determine how well we can do in a real earthquake. All schools and the district office participated in an earthquake drill together. The training drill aims to improve our ability to protect students, save lives, and reduce injuries. The district-wide drill allowed us to evaluate our emergency operations plan and improve our response skills.
Please take some time to review what your family would do in case of an earthquake. It is always a good idea to have a plan!
Thank you for participating in your child's goal-setting conference from October 7th through 15th. We are using ThoughtExchange to gather everyone's input and perspective to understand what is most important to our community. Click this link to participate: https://tejoin.com/scroll/794526208. Your input is valued and appreciated!
Be well,
Amy O’Hehir
Principal, Farnham Elementary

A NOTE FROM YOUR HSC BOARD:
Pumpkin Walk is around the corner on October 25, 2024. Presale tickets are available through October 23, and we need the community support for volunteers and donations (see attached flyers). For additional information, visit the Pumpkin Walk page here.
Haven't had a chance to give yet to the Giving Campaign and want to make a difference? Now's your chance to help us continue to fund all of our exciting activities, with a donation of any amount. We've extended the Giving Campaign through October 25.

Farnham's Bike Rodeo - Friday, Oct 18th
October 18th after school is the SJDoT’s Bike Rodeo program. This is optional and requires parental/guardian presence/supervision. This event will take place from 2:50-4:20 pm.
A bike rodeo is a bicycle skills event which provides an opportunity for bicyclists to practice and develop skills that will help them to become better bicyclists and avoid typical crashes.
No permission slip is needed, but we do require that a parent or guardian be present during the time that their child(ren) are participating. Students need to bring their own bike and helmet. If they do not have a helmet, we will have a limited supply on hand to provide for these students.
Please RSVP through this link: https://forms.gle/Mn2unKHhT2aMKQyv8. You can also sign up your student on arrival at the bike rodeo. However, the RSVP list gives the program leads an idea of how many students will be participating.

COSTUME DAY GUIDELINES for Thursday, Oct 31st
Students who choose to dress up on Halloween for our Costume Day should wear costumes that do not interfere with their ability to work in the classroom setting. The costumes should be worn over their street clothes so students can easily change out of their costumes. More details follow below:
Costume Guidelines
If your child’s costume has a fake weapon or any other prop that must be carried in the hand of the student, please leave this part at home, as this type of prop is not allowed at school.
Please avoid costumes that require masks, extravagant make-up, or sprayed hair.
Costumes are not allowed to have dangerous objects (e.g., toy swords, toy guns, chains, skates, or spray cans).
Students should wear school clothes under the costume.
Costumes should not be too scary (so that our younger students are not frightened)
No weapon, blood, or gore may be part of the costumes.
Costumes should be of appropriate length (not too short, too tight, or see-through).
Costumes should not include things on the hands or face (e.g., masks) that interfere with writing or sight.
Students should plan to wear shoes that will be safe for outdoor recess and PE activities.
Costumes should be tasteful, modest, and appropriate for a school environment and follow the basic guidelines of school dress code standards.
We thank you in advance for helping your child follow the rules about costumes. We know that the children look forward to showing off their costumes safely so that no little ones are scared.

Cambrian School District is pleased to offer all students complimentary snack at morning recess and lunch meals at lunch recess. Meals will be available for pickup in the cafeteria during scheduled meal periods. Please consider taking advantage of our FREE school meals by clicking here and signing up. It extends your grocery budget, saves time planning and preparing meals, and is comforting and familiar for kids to have school meals. In addition, every meal served is reimbursed by the USDA and funds go toward Child Nutrition staff wages. Please note that you are not taking food away from someone who needs it more – we have plenty to go around!
