The Pulse of the Pride

February 7, 2025
Lyme School Friends,
We have had another great few weeks at school. We are now heading into the week before our February Break which is packed with some fun opportunities for students.
We are grateful to the Lyme Foundation for funding new wall mats for the gymnasium. This safety enhancement is being shown off in the picture to our right by our 4th graders! Thank you, Lyme Foundation!
Next week, we are excited for our Lyme School Spotlight Talent Show, February Fun Fest, and Winter Carnival. February Fun Fest, on Thursday, is a lower school event with multi-age activities K-5. Our 5th graders take the lead with these groups. Winter Carnival, on Friday, is a middle school event where the 6th, 7th, and 8th graders enjoy some friendly competition between classes. Last year, the (current 8th grade) 7th grade was victorious.
There continues to be good work done both on the superintendent search and on the strategic plan. More details on the search for a new superintendent should be coming out fairly soon. On the strategic plan, surveys for alumni, our choice high schools and community members are all getting closer. The work on both the search and the strategic plan, will certainly shape the future of our school.
We have had a few neighbors reach out about students walking across yards on their way to and from school. If you would please remind your children about respecting others property, it would be appreciated.
Please remember that school is closed February 17th - 21st. We will see students back on campus on Monday, February 24th.
Have a fabulous weekend! The next newsletter will hit your inbox on February 28th!
As always, please reach out if I can be of assistance.
Regards,
John P. D'Entremont, Principal

Update from Nurse Miller
The 6th and 8th grade recently participated in CPR training during Health class. Using the interactive American Heart Association’s CPR in Schools program, students learned and practiced these lifesaving skills. Next week we will continue increasing awareness and ability related to AED use and choking relief. These Middle School students were enthusiastic learners who reported feeling more confident and likely to respond to a medical emergency after completing the course. I encourage parents/guardians of 6th or 8th graders to have a conversation with them about their experience.
CPR in Schools Learning Objectives:
Describe the important differences between heart attack and cardiac arrest
Describe the steps to perform Hands-Only CPR for an adult and child
Perform Hand-Only CPR for an adult and child
Demonstrate how to use an AED on an adult and child

Ms. Stanton's Update from the Counseling Office
One of Dr. D'Entremont's goals this year is to build relationships across grade levels for our students. As a result, the Student Advisory Leadership Team (SALT) was born along with PRIDE groups. PRIDE groups are comprised of students from each grade level K-8 with a designated student leader from the SALT team. The SALT leader works with their advisory peers to develop opportunities and activities to build relationships in their PRIDEs. This morning, our students had another PRIDE Friday. It was a great start to the day and you can see a number of pictures of our students engaging with each other in their PRIDEs.

Spanish: Monsters!
As kindergartners and first graders learn about body parts in Spanish, they have created their own monster class mascots. Students decided what color and how many of each body part to add. Then we wrote a class story about each one. We shared each monster with the other class in a reading activity. This was a really fun, collaborative activity that not only helped us learn body part vocabulary in Spanish but also helped us review description words for size, color and number. Ask your students about their monsters for more information!
PE in the Primary Grades
For the past few weeks, students in the primary grades have been focusing on volleying skills. These skills help students with their eye-hand coordination and motor planning.
Students were paired and the expectation was to keep a small foam ball moving across a cone placed in between them, with the intent of keeping the ball in the air while volleying. Working together is an important aspect of this skill set and students experienced a level of success while building relationships and reinforcing their manipulative skills.
Intermediate PE News
Our intermediate grades have been involved in some lead up activities, that involve eye-hand coordination and teamwork.
The game of “Newcomb” has been introduced to our students. This is a great lead up game that involves the skills of setting and catching. Students in grade 3 spent time working on these skills while combining their efforts to try and keep a small foam ball from landing on the floor.
Communication skills are essential in this activity, making for a great lesson that reinforces personal responsibility and psychomotor skills.

We are excited to announce that registration for the Pond Program is now open for campers and volunteer counselors! The Pond Program at Chase Beach will be held the following weeks: June 16-20, June 23-27, and July 7-11 from 9am - noon. We look forward to providing your children with a fun and active summer camp experience! Each day, your child will rotate through three stations: swim lessons, arts and crafts, and field games. Campers must be entering grades K-6. We will fill spots on a first come first serve basis, with preference given to Lyme families.
Tuition for camp is $150 per week per child, with discounts for multiple weeks.
We are also looking for enthusiastic volunteer counselors! If you are a rising 7th grader, 8th grader, or high school student who is interested in joining our team, please apply!
Please visit the Town of Lyme website to register campers and counselors. From the home page, registration is located under Recreation Commission, Recreation Program Registration, or by following this link. If you are registering on a mobile device, please download this app.
We are thrilled to bring the Pond Program back this summer and look forward to seeing many familiar and new faces! Please feel free to share with Lyme families who may be interested.
All the best,
