Gahanna Lincoln High School
2024-2025
A Message from Mrs. Williams
As we settle into the second quarter, it’s a great time to focus on helping our students develop a growth mindset. This approach encourages students to see challenges as opportunities to learn and grow, fostering resilience and a love of learning.
Here are a few ways you can support a growth mindset at home:
Celebrate Effort, Not Just Results: Acknowledge your student’s hard work, perseverance, and improvement over time, rather than only focusing on final grades or scores. This helps them understand that progress often comes from consistent effort.
Reframe Setbacks as Learning Opportunities: If your student experiences setbacks or frustrations, encourage them to view these moments as chances to learn. Discuss what they can take away from the experience and how they might approach similar challenges in the future.
Model Lifelong Learning: Share examples of your own learning experiences and challenges, emphasizing that growth doesn’t stop in school—it’s a lifelong journey!
Thank you for your partnership as we encourage our students to embrace growth, resilience, and a positive attitude toward learning.
Go Lions!
A Message from Our School Nurse
Mycoplasma Pnemoniae is being spread through the community. This information is to share information so you know what to watch for in your children. We are seeing an increase in this type of Pneumonia in school aged children. This type of infection can cause pneumonia(lung infection), which may require further treatment.
Signs and Symptoms of Mycoplasma Pneumoniae include:
- Coughing that lasts for several days or weeks
- Chest pain when breathing or coughing
- Fever
- Shortness of Breath
- Fatigue
- Headache
Mycoplasma Pneumoniae is spread by water droplets that contain the bacteria. Sneezing and coughing are the most common ways that the bacteria is spread. To prevent the spread of Mycoplasma Pneumonia, encourage your child to cover their mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing and wash their hands after coughing or sneezing.
If your child exhibits any of the above symptoms, treatment with antibiotics may be needed. Your doctor will determine if treatment is needed based on a physical exam and possible other testing. If your child is diagnosed with Mycoplasma Pneumoniae please contact your school nurse to report the diagnosis.
National Honor Society (NHS)
Please be advised that the requirements for National Honor Society (NHS) membership have been updated for the 2025-2026 school year. To be eligible for consideration, students must now meet the following criteria:
- Cumulative GPA of 3.5 or above
- Completion of 10 service hours: These hours can be earned through various community service activities and will need to be signed by adults supervising the activities who are NOT related to the applicant
- Completion of the NHS application: The application will be made available to eligible students in January.
Please note: Grades will be run in January 2025. Students who meet the GPA requirement will receive an email invitation to complete the NHS application and report service hours.
If you have any questions or require further information, please do not hesitate to contact Mrs.Gleek at gleeka@gjps.org.
Halloween Costumes
We’re excited to allow students to wear Halloween costumes to school on Thursday, October 31! It’s a fun way to celebrate, but please note that all costumes must follow the guidelines outlined in the GLHS Student Handbook.
To ensure a safe and positive environment, here are a few important reminders:
- No masks or full face paint are permitted.
- Costumes must adhere to the school’s dress code.
- Inflatable costumes are not allowed.
- If a costume doesn’t meet the dress code, students will be asked to change or have an alternative outfit brought to them.
We encourage students to be creative and have fun while making sure costumes are appropriate for the school setting. Let’s make this a safe and enjoyable day for everyone!
