The Weekly SharkBeat!
SJHS Weekly Parent Newsletter - September 10, 2023
It's Great to be a Shark!
As we approach the end of the first interim on September 20, I am reminded daily how wonderful it is to be a Shark. We truly have the best students, teachers, and staff. SJHS students are head and shoulders above other schools. I could not be more proud of the hard work I see visiting classrooms, walking the halls,at our after school clubs meetings, and at our extracurricular activities.
If your student is not involved in a sport, theater, chorus, JROTC, or the band, I encourage them to check out our afterschool clubs. There is something for everyone and a great way to get to know classmates and peers. See our "Clubs" below for a complete list.
Thank you for taking the time to review the Weekly Sharkbeat Newsletter. Please check the school website and Facebook page for additional updates and information. Thank you for choosing to be a part of the Shark family. Have a great evening, keep swimming forward, and as always, Go SHARKS!

PTSO Needs YOU!
The Lowes Foods Cart 2 Class Program is a very EASY and FREE way to earn money for your children's school(s). For every private label purchase you make, Lowes Foods donates a percentage of those sales to the school and every year they donate $250,000 to schools across the Carolinas.
Lowes Foods has a wide variety of private labels ranging from pet food to cleaning supplies and of course your everyday groceries. Attached is the Cart 2 Class flyer that mentions all of the private labels that count for this program.
If you have participated in the Cart 2 Class Program before you need to re-link your card every August. It only takes a minute and you can click here and enter your Fresh Rewards Card number and choose up to 3 schools. Each school get the same percentage whether it’s 1 school or 3.
Can’t find your Rewards Card? That’s ok you can click here to use your phone number. If you’re having trouble linking your card or if you need a Lowes Foods Rewards Card, you can grab one at any register and any of their hosts can help you get enrolled.
We hope you will continue to support St. James High School PTSO by enrolling in the Cart 2 Class Program with Lowes Foods.
Security
This year HCS implemented some new security measures which we have adopted here at SJH as well as changed a few things to help enforce the safety of our students and staff.
When visiting the school, all visitors will use the front entrance off of Hwy 707. Our security guard will greet you and inquire about your visit. We ask that you please have an ID ready to present to the security officer and bring into the building with you.
Also, all gates are locked once school starts. Students arriving late or leaving early will use the front entrance to go around the circle to the student parking lot.
Gifted and Talented Referrals
Any parent who wishes to refer their child for placement in the gifted and talented program should complete the attached form. Please send the completed referral form and any standardized test scores to the Gifted and Talented Office or email to Wendy Bernstein at wbernstein@horrycountyschools.net by September 18, 2023. It will be a parent responsibility to ensure that their child is present during the test days that each school selects for testing.
Early Pick Up
If you plan to pick your student up early or your student will drive off campus early, please send a note with your student to be turned in before school starts at the Welcome Desk. We will verify the note and give your student a pass to meet you or leave at the appropriate time. Sending a note cuts down on class interruptions. Unfortunately, we cannot accept phone calls or emails to dismiss students. We appreciate your help.
