GHS Weekly Newsletter:
Week of August 26, 2024:
Dear Goshen Students and Families,
We’ve had a fantastic start to the school year! The energy in the halls, the enthusiasm in the classrooms, and the smiles on students’ faces have been inspiring. It’s clear that we are all committed to making this year one of growth, learning, and connection.
One of the keys to a successful school year is consistent attendance. When students are present, engaged, and participating, they build the skills and knowledge needed to succeed. Attendance is crucial not just for academic achievement, but also for fostering relationships and a sense of belonging. Every day counts, and we appreciate your support in encouraging regular attendance.
Our school culture is built on mutual respect, kindness, and looking out for one another. We believe that by taking care of each other, we create an environment where everyone can thrive. Whether it’s helping a classmate, respecting our school, or simply being a positive presence, every action contributes to the culture we’re building together.
I also want to highlight the positive impact we’ve seen from limiting cell phone use during the school day. Without the distraction of screens, students are more focused, engaged, and present. This has already led to deeper discussions, stronger connections, and a more vibrant learning environment. We’re proud of the way our students have embraced this change, and we’re excited to see the long-term benefits.
Thank you for your ongoing support as we continue to make this school year a success. Together, we’re building a community where every student has the opportunity to excel.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Walker

Junior Homearama Project Featuring Goshen High School: Homearama 2024 is happening in Goshen Township at The Reserves at Stone Pillars Farm from August 24th through September 8th. This event will showcase six fully decorated and landscaped homes. As part of the event, there will be a special Junior Homearama Project featuring two well-built, yard-ready sheds constructed by Goshen High School students. These sheds, designed to fit seamlessly in any home’s yard, align with the equestrian theme of the home development. This project reflects a partnership between the Home Builders Association and Goshen Schools, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in education and community development. Materials for the sheds were generously donated by McCabe Lumber, Sherwin Williams, and Pella Glass, showcasing the strong support of the business community in providing students with real-world experience and skills. Visitors can purchase raffle tickets during the event for a chance to win one of these high-quality sheds. The raffle supports the Careers in Construction program, which funds scholarships for students interested in pursuing careers in the residential trades. Tickets for the event are $22.00 at the gate, or $20 online at [cincyhomearama.com](https://www.cincyhomearama.com/events/tickets) and on the Cincinnati HOMEARAMA® app. Children 12 and under are admitted for free if accompanied by an adult. No tickets will be sold or admittance allowed after 8:00 PM. Support student career development and potentially take home one of these well-built, yard-ready sheds, made possible through a partnership between Goshen Schools and HBA businesses.

Cell Phones: House Bill 250, which was signed into law by Governor DeWine, limits the use of cell phones and other wireless devices in our schools. Goshen Local Schools agrees with the research behind HB250 and with limiting the distractions that cell phone use creates for our students. With that in mind, below are the proposed changes to our cell phone practices and student handbook policies for the 2024-2025 school year, pending Board approval. Students are permitted to have cell phones on campus. Students are not permitted to use phones during class time or to take phones to the restroom. The expectation is for cell phones and wireless earbuds/headphones/AirPods to be put away and silenced in the classroom unless documented in IEP/504 or for documented health concerns. Students may access their devices before school, during lunch, and after school. To ensure compliance with these guidelines, the following consequences will be enforced:
Consequence for violating cellphone guidelines
1st offense (Classroom) - warning provided and parent contacted by teacher
2nd offense (Strike 1 in Office) - phone sent to office, parent contacted, and student can pick up phone from office at the end of the day
3rd offense (Strike 2 in Office) - phone sent to office, device must be picked up by the parent/guardian, and conversation is had about the repercussions if a student earns Strike 3.
4th offense (Strike 3 in Office) - phone sent to office, device must be picked up by the parent/guardian, and the device is not permitted to return to the school building for a designated amount of time up to and including the rest of the school year.
Chronic abuse of cell phone privileges will result in appropriate disciplinary measures up to and including suspension from school.
