BHS Homecoming Week
Spirit Week Days
Spirit Week Days have been decided for Homecoming Week this year! We love to see students and staff get involved, so I would encourage students to have fun with the week with these Spirit Week Days. The Spirit Week Days are as follows:
Monday - Pajama Day
Tuesday - Country Versus Country Club Day
Wednesday - Minion Day (like from the Despicable Me movies. Students said jeans and a yellow shirt works too)
Thursday - Safari/Animal Print Day
Friday - Black and Orange Day
Assembly Schedule
We will be having our annual Homecoming Assembly on Friday, October 11th. As a result, there will be an adjusted schedule. The adjusted schedule can be found here. Please have your student(s) check the adjusted schedule if they are not at BHS for all six hours daily so they know when they should be in attendance. We are encouraging all students to attend the assembly on Friday as their peers work very hard to put together an entertaining assembly and we would love to see the BHS Fieldhouse full, cheering loud, proud, and positive for the week's Homecoming festivities!
Parents/families looking to attend the Homecoming Assembly:
Doors will open by the pool and Athletic Department Office by 12:50 pm on Friday. Please enter through either of these two doors and make your way into the Fieldhouse to enjoy the Homecoming Assembly.
*There will be NO Advisory on Wednesday, October 9th due to the adjusted Friday schedule for the assembly. We will remind students as Wednesday approaches, but wanted to make sure you are aware as well.
Parade and Dance Info
The Homecoming Parade will follow the traditional route this year through downtown. It will kick off from the BECC Building promptly at 6 pm and will finish on 7th St alongside the High School. If your students are going to be a part of the Homecoming Parade, they need to plan to be at the BECC Building (125 S Church St.) no later than 5:30 pm on Friday. It is a fantastic community event put together by the BHS Exec Board and highlights a number of our clubs/teams, and community groups, as well as the hard work of our Class Councils and their Advisors who build the Class Floats.
*If you are planning to attend with your family, one change this year to be aware of is that candy WILL be passed out this year, but it will be done from the BACK of the parade in order to assist in keeping children out of the roadway while the parade is going on. Parking on Main St. will also not be allowed after 2 pm on Friday, so please plan accordingly.
The Homecoming Dance will be held in the BHS Fieldhouse on Saturday, October 12th from 7 - 10 pm. This year's theme is "Enchanted Garden." Exec Board and their Advisors work extremely hard to pull off a great night for our students so we want as many students to take advantage of it as possible!
If you/your student did not purchase their ticket online, they can purchase their ticket(s) IN-PERSON only, all week during lunches. There will be a table set up in the cafeteria for them to be able to do so. Tickets are $25/person. No tickets can be purchased at the door. In-person purchases can be made via cash or check (made out to BHS with "Homecoming" on the Memo line) ONLY. Must have exact change for any cash purchases.
Online Homecoming Ticket Purchase Pick-Up
If you purchased Homecoming Tickets online via ParentConnect, your student(s) will need to pick them up this week! Students looking to pick-up tickets already purchased need to stop by the ticket table during their lunch period any day Monday through Friday. It will be located inside the cafeteria. They can provide their name and ID to the students working the table to confirm purchase, or can bring proof of purchase to show at the table.
Student ID Cards - Reminder
As you know, student and staff safety is our priority at BHS. One of the things that helps with this is knowing who is coming and going in our building at any point in time. Students should be carrying their Student ID Card on them at all times. When coming into the building after school has started, students will be required to buzz into the building and show their Student ID Card in order to gain entry.
*If your student loses their Student ID Card, we can print them a replacement. There is a $10 fee for replacing a lost Student ID Card and you may also be required to purchase a new athletic pass as well.
AP Test Payments - Now Open
AP Exam payments are now being accepted on ParentConnect. If a student intends to take an AP exam in May at BHS, they need to submit payment for each AP exam they intend to take through ParentConnect. Each exam is $100, and payments are being accepted until October 30th. If payment is not received before that date, an exam will not be ordered for your student. If you have any questions regarding the payment process, please reach out to Jennifer Napuli at napulij@brightonk12.com or Sheryl Hemphill at hemphills@brightonk12.com.
2024/25 Advisory - Reminders on Traveling and Testing
*There will be NO Advisory this week due to the adjusted assembly schedule that will be used on Friday.
Going forward, in addition to staying in their Advisory class, students are given additional opportunities to utilize their Advisory period in a way that sets them up for success. The opportunities include:
1) Traveling to one of their teacher's classes to receive additional academic support
2) Making up a missing test/quiz with one of their teachers or in the Media Center
We encourage students to take advantage of both of these opportunities. If they are planning to do so, there are a couple of important reminders as it relates to both traveling and Media Center Testing for them to remember:
- If a student is traveling, they MUST get a pass from the teacher they are planning to see by the end of the day on Tuesday.
- Teachers may utilize the Media Center during Advisory as an alternative testing site for students, but do not have to (they can have them test with them instead).
- ALL quizzes and/or tests must be sent to the Media Center by the classroom teacher by Tuesday at 2:50 pm. No quizzes/tests will be accepted on the day of Advisory. This means students need to communicate with their teachers and make sure any tests/quizzes they plan to make up are sent down in advance.
- If a student is planning to travel or take a make-up test/quiz, they should email BOTH their Advisory teacher and the teacher they travel to on Advisory Wednesday upon showing up to the appropriate location.

PTO Volunteers and Meeting Information
BHS PTO is an active part of your student’s overall high school experience. In addition to others, the BHS PTO proudly supports the following activities throughout the school year: educational student assemblies, Academic Letter, Academic Wall of Fame, Freshman class activities, staff and student appreciation events, financial support for student-run after-school clubs and organizations, and the Senior Picnic. All activities are supported through the generosity of BHS families. If you would like to donate to the BHS PTO, you can do so here.
Our PTO at BHS has already been hard at work this year supporting BHS staff and students in a variety of ways, including a student lunch treat on Thursday of this past week! Coming up, PTO will be supporting our teachers by providing them with a meal before Parent/Teacher Conferences on October 17th. Please see the message from PTO regarding this below:
The PTO will be hosting a dinner for BHS staff during conferences on October 17, 2024. If you would like to help, please review the available slots and click on the button to sign up. Please indicate in your sign-up what type of soup and/or salad you will be bringing so we can avoid duplicates. A few vegetarian and gluten-free options would be wonderful!
Please drop all perishable items to the HS Main Office before 1:00pm on the day of event. Please drop all non-perishable items at the HS Main Office anytime prior to the event date. Thank you!

Updated Senior Portrait Due Date
Apologies from the BHS Yearbook Staff! The deadline for Senior Portrait submissions is November 8, NOT October 31, as posted earlier. Don't wait to order your yearbook, however, as the current deal ends on September 30! If you'd like to surprise your special Senior at the end of the year, consider purchasing a Recognition Ad. Visit https://www.yearbooknerds.com/brighton-high-school to check all three off your list!
Portraits by Alex Senior Headshot Information - Due Date Clarification Included
The "to-do" list for a Senior (and Senior parent) is a long one. There are three important tasks to ensure each Senior is honored in the 2024-25 BHS Yearbook. Seniors must submit their Senior Headshots to the yearbook by November 8th, along with a list of Senior Activities. Parents may also buy an "ad" to recognize their special Senior. If you do not have a photographer submitting pictures on your behalf, students will have the opportunity to have Portraits by Alex take their Senior picture on either 11/13 or 11/14 for $50. Senior Yearbook Recognition Ad prices go up by 12/2. Of course, Seniors will also want to order a yearbook as a treasured memento of their Senior year. Take care of all three tasks at once at https://www.yearbooknerds.com/brighton-high-school! Order your book by September 30th to get the best price!
Brighton High School Yearbook Flyer
We have gotten a number of questions regarding the 11/13 and 11/14 dates for Seniors planning to get their Senior Headshot taken by Portraits by Alex at BHS. To clarify, these dates ARE correct. They come later once we have had a chance to go through all submissions and determine who has not submitted a Senior Headshot yet in case they still want to do so. It gives us the opportunity to reach out to students and parents and Portraits by Alex submits the images directly to the yearbook company all at once in bulk.
If you are wondering how to sign up to have your student's Senior Headshot taken on the 13th or 14th by Portraits by Alex, there will be a Google sign-up that is sent to students at the end of October. Students need to sign-up through their school Google account. If you are interested, please look out for that email in October.
Please let us know if you have any questions.

Scholarship Opportunities
We are regularly looking for potential scholarship for our students to help offset the cost of any type of postsecondary education our students pursue. One of these options is the scholarship directory. Within this directory, you can find scholarships available for a variety of different categories. Scholarships specific to this year's Seniors can be found here. You will find scholarship information for a multitude of scholarships dated as far out as August 31, 2025. You may also be interested in some of the Michigan-specific scholarships listed as a separate category. This page is one of many resources available for students when it comes to potential scholarship opportunities so we would encourage you to check it out! Michigan College Month - October 2024
According to the Michigan College Access Network:
Michigan College Month is part of the American College Application Campaign, a national initiative with the goal to provide every graduating high school senior the opportunity to apply to college and for financial aid. Special focus is placed on assisting students who would be the first in their families to attend college and students who may not have otherwise seriously considered applying to college. Michigan College Month can open the door for students by encouraging them to take the most significant steps toward college in their senior year. Michigan College Month emphasizes the relationship between applying to and paying for college and helps break down some of the most complex and commonly cited barriers to attending college.
Brighton High School will have a variety of different events in October in support of Michigan College Month. During the month of October, a number of Michigan colleges and universities are waiving application fees for prospective applicants. More information on specific school doing so can be found here.
Michigan Assured Admission Pact - Important Info on Guaranteed College Admission
The Michigan Assured Admission Pact (MAAP) was developed in 2023. The goal was to remove uncertainty from the college admissions process for students.
10 of the 15 public universities banded together and are guaranteeing admission for students who have a 3.0 GPA or higher; all the student needs to do is apply.
For more information, a list of participating schools, as well as an updated FAQ, visit the MAAP website.
American Legion Department of Michigan - Programs and Scholarships Available
The American Legion Department of Michigan offers high school students several opportunities to gain valuable experience that will last a lifetime. At the same time, students can earn money for college or earn the needed community service points required on many college entrance applications, including the West Point Military Academy. They are currently offering over $75,000 in scholarships for both college, as well as skilled trades.
For more information, check out their information they have shared regarding programming they currently offer students in grades 9 - 12!

The crisis of fentanyl and counterfeit pills is claiming far too many young lives, and we are committed to making a difference. Fentanyl Fathers Story
They provide assemblies all across the country to schools and their team of passionate bereaved parents travel across the country to directly educate students about the dangers of fentanyl, counterfeit pills, and the critical steps for recognizing and responding to an overdose. Through impactful presentations, they aim to empower youth with knowledge and resources, helping them make informed decisions and stay safe.
