Drills Notification
The health and safety of our students and staff are our top priority. Under the Illinois School Safety Drill Act, all public schools are required to conduct a variety of safety drills annually. Drills practiced include fire (3), bus evacuation (1), severe weather/shelter-in-place (2), and law enforcement (lockdown/active shooter) (3).
We will conduct our first fire, lockdown, and severe weather drill within a week of school starting. Preparing for various scenarios in advance helps empower staff and students in the case of a real emergency. While the chance of an incident happening is unlikely, we care about the well-being of our students and staff and are required by law to educate our school community to ensure emergency preparedness for all.
Our school will participate in a lockdown drill on Tuesday, August 27. We understand that some drills, particularly the lockdown drill, could cause anxiety for some students. Should you have questions about the lockdown drill, please contact Dr. Marks at ammarks@d47.org or 815-444-4800. Should you wish to opt your child out of the lockdown drills, please fill out and email this form by Friday, August 23 to Dr. Marks. Under state law, schools must still provide alternative safety education related to an active threat to students who do not participate in the lockdown drill. Please note: Filling out and submitting this form will opt your student out of ALL three lockdown drills for the current school year.
School Picture Day, September 5
District 47 has contracted with Color Portraits to take student pictures this year. All picture orders must be placed online through Color Portraits via the information linked here. This is a Color Portraits, Inc. prepay site and ordering will be closed at midnight the day of Picture Day to process the orders. If parents missed prepaying they will have a chance to order pictures with their child's Ticket Code. When placing an order after Picture Day with a Ticket Code a shipping fee will be added on and picture packages will be shipped directly to the home. Ticket Codes will be delivered with the bulk picture package order approximately three weeks post Picture Day.
If your child is absent on September 5, our picture retake day will be October 11.
