This is a new feature of the newsletter where members of the O3C Executive will be highlighted. This week we take a minute to get to know Tom Stephens.

1. Position - Membership Director
2. Role as Membership Director - keeping track of member clubs and recruiting new ones. In addition to Membership, I managed the Speakers Registry for about three years, until recently when it became part of Education. I've been Latow's rep to GTCCC and then O3C since 2013.

3. Photography Club Affiliation - Latow Photographers Guild in Burlington. I've been a member there since 2008.

4. Favourite Genre of Photography - Judging by the number of images on my hard drive -- travel and architecture, followed by still life, Event and Street.

5. Personal Photography Philosophy - I've long been interested in the visual arts and gravitated to photography as one discipline where I might have some talent :). My approach is generally to rely on serendipity and make images where I find them; I seldom go looking for them. The exception is still life, which don't arise by chance the way my other topics do.
6. Photography Wishlist - I have no wish list now, having recently acquired an advanced model
iPhone. I know it's heresy, but I used the iPhone exclusively on a recent trip and found it excellent for crowded markets, panoramic landscapes, even the occasional video. I'll stick with my mirrorless Olympus for tabletop work.
7. Photography Hero(es) - Freeman Patterson: I took a week-long workshop with Freeman in 1997 and it transformed my way of seeing. I still admire him and his work, with Richard Martin a close second.

"It is an illusion that photos are made with the camera… they are made with the eye, heart and head.
