Updates from U-32
April 18, 2025
Principal's Update
Dear U-32 Families, Students, and Caregivers,
Two groups of students are out of the country this week to Peru and France. These cultural exchanges help our young people to become and be active contributors to their global community. In France (top) students visited the beaches at Normandy to connect with history (a passion for many of them) and will engage in homestays and go to school with students in France. In Peru, students visit markets and ruins (bottom) to be immersed in culture and environment full of deep history. Their roles as learners on these travel experiences deepens their connection to their role as global citizens.
On May 5th, I hope you'll join us to learn more about our partnership with Thangpal Valley School in Nepal. This is yet another opportunity for our students to expand their work as global citizens through partnership.
Best,
Becca

Stage 16’s Spamalot Brings Laughter, Leadership, and Core Values to the Stage
Earlier this month, our 7th and 8th grade theater program, Stage 16, brought down the house with their hilarious and heartfelt production of Spamalot. The show was more than just a comedy — it was a celebration of our school’s core values: passion, creativity, and contribution to community.
The production featured not only middle school performers but also an incredible group of high school mentors. These mentors worked side-by-side with younger students, guiding them through the rehearsal process, tech elements, and performance weekend.
One of the most beautiful aspects of Stage 16 is the way it fosters student leadership and responsibility. With support from their HS mentors, students took ownership of the production — managing props, cues, backstage coordination, and more. The result was a high-energy, joy-filled show that had the audience laughing from start to finish.
From knights and killer rabbits to musical numbers and coconut horses, Spamalot was a shining example of how passion, collaboration, and trust in young artists can create something truly magical. We even had a special guest join us onstage - Amy Molina - featured below as “Sir Not Appearing in the Show.”
Congratulations U-32 Winooski Valley Middle School Music Festival Participants!
Congratulations to the thirty-three U-32 7th and 8th graders that performed at the Winooski Valley Middle School Music Festival on April 9th at Montpelier High School! The students worked hard to prepare their music, rehearsed for the full day and put on a fantastic concert with students from all over central VT.

Vermont ABLE accounts offer a $25 incentive to new registrations in April
The Vermont State Treasurer’s Office is proud to promote ABLE (Achieving a Better Life Experience)
accounts—a powerful tool helping Vermonters with disabilities build financial security.
Administered by the Treasurer’s Office, ABLE accounts allow individuals with disabilities and their
families to save and invest money without affecting eligibility for Medicaid, Supplemental Security
Income (SSI), or other needs-based public benefits. These tax-advantaged accounts can be used
for a wide range of disability-related expenses, including education, housing, transportation, health
care, and more.
By protecting access to public benefits, ABLE accounts help give individuals the freedom to plan for
the future, live with dignity, and gain greater independence.
Today, more than 1,000 Vermonters are using ABLE accounts, but many more Vermonters qualify
who have not yet enrolled. To encourage new sign-ups, there is a $25 incentive to any Vermonter
who opens an ABLE account during the month of April.
And starting in 2026, ABLE eligibility will expand to include individuals who experienced the onset of a disability before age 46 (up from the current limit of 26). This change will extend ABLE access to more Vermonters, including many veterans and adults.
We hope you’ll join us in spreading the word about ABLE. Together, we can ensure more Vermonters with disabilities have the tools they need to thrive and continue building a more inclusive, supportive community for all.

Dual Enrollment / Early College
As an incoming Vermont high school junior or senior, you are eligible for two Vermont Dual Enrollment Vouchers, allowing you to take one free college course in your junior year of high school and one in your senior year of high school. It’s called Dual Enrollment because your free college courses will also earn you credit towards graduation from high school.
Dual enrollment is offered through all VT public colleges/universities and some private colleges too. Go to http://www.vtdualenrollment.org/ for a list of participating colleges and to request a dual enrollment voucher.
High School Seniors are also eligible for Early College- got to http://education.vermont.gov/student-learning/flexible-pathways/early-college for more information
Not All Colleges and Universities Require SATs/ACTs
Not all admissions processes are created equal. One major point of difference among colleges these days is how admissions officers consider your SAT scores. More schools are de-emphasizing SAT scores as part of your application with “test optional” and “test flexible” policies. One college has even eliminated SAT scores completely!
There are now over 800 accredited, bachelor-degree granting institutions that have changed their approach to standardized test scores. (Keep in mind that the majority of colleges, especially the more prestigious schools, do still require and strongly consider your SAT scores.) Let’s take a look at the different policies and which schools no longer require applicants to submit their scores for admission. Go to www.fairtest.org for more info
