Ripon Cathedral School Update
Week ending Friday 15th November 2024
Children in Need
We have all enjoyed participating in Children in Need Day today to raise funds for children facing poverty, mental health conditions and other challenges. We loved this year's theme: Gladiators! Special thanks to our sporting staff members Hurricane Harriott and Power Puff Powell who put on the sumo suits for some gladiator themed activities in our whole school worship, and to Mrs Pitt for organising the day! The school hall was filled with laughter and competitive spirit as our two sumo gladiators took part in some tricky challenges, cheered on by the children and ably compered by Paige, Piers and Joshua.
Thank you for your support by making donations on ParentPay - there's still time to contribute!
Area Finals Football Tournament
Well done to the Year 5 children, who took part in the football tournament on Thursday, held at Boroughbridge High School. They showed great resilience and determination throughout some tough matches. Ivy-Rose was awarded a certificate for her determination throughout the tournament! We are very proud of you all!
Remembrance Day Worship
On Monday, Year 5 delivered a respectful and educational remembrance worship. To prepare for the worship, the children discussed what they would like to include. They wanted to research and present facts about World War 1 as well as Remembrance Day. They also wanted to explore the different coloured poppies in addition to including a game and a quiz. Children were split into groups to research, come up with games, write quiz questions and write a prayer. They did a fantastic job delivering their worship to the whole school and those parents, grandparents, friends who also joined us. At 11am the whole school gathered on the playground for 2 minutes' silence to show our respect. The children did this brilliantly and were a credit to our wonderful school.
Road Safety Week
Next week is Road Safety Week and in preparation we are grateful to PCSO Wright for coming into school on Thursday to speak with our younger classes. All the children were given a reflector pack. Please can we ask parents to encourage their children to use the reflectors so they can be spotted easily on the walk to and from school now that the nights are drawing in.
Our local Zero Carbon group has sent us this message:
Walk to School Days take place once every half-term, although many schools promote good transport habits on a daily and weekly basis, to improve air quality, reduce congestion and improve pupil health and wellbeing. Our next target day is Friday 22nd November in Road Safety Week.
Please consider allowing a little more time to take part. Enjoy the opportunity to walk and talk with your child. Teach them how to keep safe and don’t forget to say thank you to all the lollipop team, school staff and community police officers making your journey to school safe.
Be a ZERO HERO and simply swap the car for your feet!
