The Ram Reminder ~Families~
1.1.25
Dear Families,
Happy New Year! We hope you had a restful and enjoyable Winter Break with your families and created wonderful memories.
Focus on Empathy and Perseverence: The character trait for the month of December was Empathy and for January we will explore Perseverence.
Community Resources: As a reminder, our school is committed to supporting our families. If you or someone you know needs assistance, please reach out. We’re here to help!
Many, many thanks to all the supporters we had during the month of November and December:
- Caitlin Clark books donated to 2nd graders courtesy of Dickson and Juann Jensen.
- Naturalist Jacob Fernholz visiting Ms. Fisher's 2nd Grade class
- Our parents for donating snacks for our teacher's lounge - yummy!
- Kindergarten and 1st Grade Winter Concert
- Mrs. Boyd's History Class - teaching our 3rd graders about ancient Greece and 4th graders about ancient Rome
- Ram Readers for donating books to our students on December 20, 2024
We are excited to welcome students back to school and are looking forward to a fantastic second half of the year together!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Hinote
Important Safety Updates
Safety of our students and staff remain a priority at Greene County Schools. Your child may talk about seeing law enforcement officers at Greene County Elementary. Our local officers come to school to eat lunch, walk the halls, and attend recess with our students. A huge THANK YOU to the Jefferson Police Department and the Greene County Sheriff's Department for your partnership in school safety. Our next schoolwide safety drills will be in February.
Life can bring challenges, SAP is a free resource for GCE students and families:
Mentoring Opportunity
GCCSD is partnering with New Opportunities for a mentoring program. Check out the information below if your child may benefit from a mentor.
Food Pantry Backpacks
GCCSD partners with the Food Bank of Iowa to provide food products for our students and families. Food pantry items are sent home in student backpacks on Fridays. We strive to provide items to create a meal and/or supplement the home's pantry. Items vary based on availability. All students are eligible to receive pantry items. Please fill out the form linked below to sign your child(ren) up.

Attendance Updates
Attendance is a priority at Greene County Community Schools. Our GCE building goal is to decrease the number of students who are considered chonically absent from last school year.
So far we have decreased our number from last year by 3%. Keep up the great work, parents!
District is sending home attendance letters to families to increase awareness after 3, 6, and 9 days of accumulated absences. Please don't hesitate to reach out to us if you have any questions about student absences.

Cooler Weather is Upon us!
Please review the recess and weather guidelines for GCE. We will be outside for recess everyday unless the wind chill is below zero. Please help your child plan accordingly for comfortable outdoor play. If you need winter clothing items for your child, please reach out to our nurse, Lita Bauer, 515.386.3178.
Please label your child's clothing. This is to ensure we can return items to the owner in case they are misplaced. Encourage your child to practice responsibility while keeping track of their extra winter clothing. This will be much appreciated by our teachers! 😃
