CCSD Education Update
August 23, 2024
Large-Scale Athletic Events and Random School Arrival Screenings
With our continued focus on safety for the 2024–2025 school year, security upgrades may impact large-scale athletic events, including varsity basketball and football games and random school arrival screenings at Clark County School District (CCSD) middle and high schools.
With the use of the new safety-focused technology, we remind families to be patient when attending large-scale campus events. Helpful things to know:
CCSD utilizes the Weapons Detection System as a security upgrade. While weapons detection is not new to large-scale athletic events at high schools and has been in place for many years, the enhanced Weapons Detection System will be used with traditional metal detectors at these events, including varsity basketball and football games.
Please arrive early at large-scale school events to allow extra time for screening.
The enhanced Weapons Detection Systems are also being incorporated into random arrival screenings at middle and high schools. The Weapon Screening Program was first introduced in the 2018–2019 school year, during which different middle and high schools are randomly chosen for screenings on a rotating basis.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we strive to ensure that all education environments are safe and conducive to learning.
CCSD Superintendent Search Survey Now Available
The Clark County School District (CCSD) Board of School Trustees invites members of the community to take the superintendent search survey by September 3, 2024. The survey is available by clicking here.
The survey is designed to gather perceptions of CCSD and the importance of various characteristics found in effective superintendents. The information will be used to determine the desired characteristics of the next Superintendent. The Board appreciates community members taking the time to share their thoughts. The survey is conducted by a search firm, which ensures that individual responses are kept anonymous and confidential.
As part of the superintendent search process, the Board of School Trustees approved a contract with Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates to carry out the superintendent search. The superintendent search process is anticipated to take several months, with the goal of selecting a new superintendent by November 1, 2024.

Important CCSD Safety Updates for 2024-2025 School Year
Required Student ID Cards
Beginning in the 2024-2025 school year, students in grades 6–12 must wear an identification badge on CCSD secondary school campus. Middle and high schools will outline procedures for students to check-in to school utilizing a single point of entry/doors. Identification badges will be created and distributed by individual schools. More information about how students can obtain their identification badges will come from each school during the first few weeks of the school year.
Cell Phone Pouches
Additionally, the District works to ensure our students receive a high-quality education in a conducive learning environment. With that in mind, this school year, CCSD is implementing an innovative solution that will significantly contribute to safety in our schools – using non-locking, signal-blocking pouches for personal cellular devices in grades 6–12. Elementary schools can use the pouches if they believe it is appropriate for their campus.
In our increasingly digital world, electronic devices have become integral to our lives, providing both opportunities and challenges. Non-locking, signal-blocking pouches prevent electronic devices from sending or receiving signals inside the pouch. The primary purpose is to ensure a distraction-free and safe learning environment.
The benefits of using a non-locking, signal-blocking pouch within the classroom will assist students with academic learning, including minimizing distractions, promoting responsible device use, and ensuring a fair and safe learning environment.
Each student’s cellular device will be placed in a non-locking, signal-blocking pouch in a safe classroom location and accessible in the event of an emergency.
We are confident that, with your cooperation, we can create a more focused learning atmosphere.
