Lake in the Hills Elementary

Good Afternoon Families,

It was great to see so many of our families at our REC2Night event! We hope you enjoyed connecting with agencies in our community.

Earlier this week, we took a moment to remember the heroes of 9/11, reflecting on their courage and selflessness. We encouraged students to honor their legacy by being kind and helpful in our own lives. As we carry these values with us, let's now turn our attention to what's happening at LITH.

Reinforcing positive behavior both at home and at school creates an environment where all students can thrive socially, emotionally, and academically. On Wednesday, October 2nd, we are going celebrate our LITH community by inviting Tim Hannig and the Pro-Kids Show to our school. During the day, our students will be treated to a show featuring Tim, where he will perform magic acts involving our students, talk about positive behavior, and motivate them to do their best! In the evening, the LITH community is invited to Tim's Family show at 6:30pm, where he will bring the community together to celebrate all the great things happening here at LITH. Stay tuned throughout the coming weeks for more information on this fun event!

Nurse Note: Please remember to schedule your incoming kindergarten/or new student for a vision exam with an eye doctor. Vision exam forms are due by October 15th, 2024 and can be sent by fax (847) 532-6914 or email: krystyne.zakosek@d300.org Dental Exams for kindergarten and newly entering student are due by May 15th, 2025.

Thank you to all the families that have been working hard at raising money for our school. We have through this weekend to sell. Please make sure you send in any money and tickets you have on Monday September 16th. We cannot wait to share how much everyone raised to make this year great for all the students.

Join us September 18th at MOD Pizza for our first Dine and Share event. All you have to do is mention that you are there for the LITH Elementary Fundraiser, and we get 20% back. We appreciate your support.

Are you interested in being a volunteer this year? In order to volunteer, you will need to complete the D300 RAPTOR form (LINK FORM HERE). This process needs to be completed each school year. At LITH, we require our volunteers to go through a 10-15 minute volunteer training with our FSL, Lupe Reyes. If you completed the LITH Volunteer Training in the 23-24 school year, you will not need to complete the process again. If you are unsure, please reach out to Lupe Reyes to confirm. If you would like to complete the LITH Volunteer Training, please email Lupe Reyes at guadalupe.reyes@d300.org.

School Portrait Day will be held on Friday, September 20th, 2024. You will receive an email when your images are ready to view and order online. Please remember to view and select your child's image for the yearbook. If no selection is made, one will be chosen for your child. You can also find your child's photo at vipis.com shortly after the photos are taken. For further assistance, please contact VIP at support@vipis.com. Please note that all orders will be delivered directly to your home.

We will begin the first of three sessions this school year of our Erin's Law presentations the week of September 23rd and September 30th. Please see the attached letter for more information on the presentations. The state of Illinois passed House Bill 6193 in January of 2013 that requires schools to implement an age-appropriate body safety, sexual assult/abuse awareness and prevention curriculum for grades pre-K through 12. When the second and third session take place later in the school year, we will notify you.

You will be receiving iReady parent reports from our Fall iReady Diagnostic. Please see the attachment to better understand the results you receive. Please reach out to your student's teacher if you have any questions.

Next week at Lake in the Hills Elementary, students in grades 3+ will participate in an assessment to allow school leaders to gauge students’ sense of belonging at school. This is part of D300’s continuing effort to improve our understanding of our students' needs. Although our school values the voices and perspectives of our pre-K through 2nd-grade students, we do not feel that the reading level of the assessment suits the average literacy of our youngest students.

We recommend K-2 students work with their families (parents and guardians) to provide feedback through the 2024-25 5 Essentials Survey. Unfortunately, the 5 Essentials places similar restrictions on K-2 student participation due to reading levels. However, since the 5 Essentials can be completed from home, students and families can discuss their experiences and complete the survey together.

Throughout the year, youth programs reach out and ask us to share their information. The programs are not affiliated with Lake in the Hills Elementary, but we do believe in a strong school to community partnership. Items in this portion of the newsletter are ways to engage within the Lake in the Hills Community.

El Día del Retrato Escolar se llevará a cabo el viernes 20 de septiembre del 2024. Usted recibirá un correo electrónico cuando sus imágenes estén listas para ver y ordenar en línea. Por favor recuerde ver y seleccionar la imagen de su estudiante para el anuario. Si no hace ninguna selección, se elegirá una automáticamente para su estudiante. La proxima semana en la Escuela Primaria Lake in the Hills, los estudiantes de tercer grado participarán en una evaluación para permitir a los líderes escolares evaluar el sentido de pertenencia de los estudiantes a la escuela.
