A Message To Families From Mr. Peck
Riverview Families,
Last week students in grades 3-5 participated in MCA Reading assessments. Everything went smoothly. Thank you for helping to get your child's iPad updated, making sure it is charged each day, and that they are coming to school rested, fed, and ready to show what they know! This week we will switch over to math assessments so we ask that you continue to do these things throughout this week as well. We are proud of all our students have learned throughout the year. They are amazing!
This week we will also recognize Administrative Professionals Appreciation Day on Wednesday, April 24. We are so grateful for our two admin assistants, Ms. Sally VanValkenburg and Ms. Jen Cole who do so much for our students and staff. We rely on them to do so much to keep our school running smoothly each day and they both bring tremendous talent, dedication, and can-do attitudes to the main office. If you happen to cross paths with either of them in the days/weeks ahead, please take a moment to thank them for all they do!
Best wishes for a great week!
Shawn Peck
Principal

Weather Remains Unpredictable; Please Ensure Your Child Has Appropriate Clothing
Each day the weather seems to present new conditions for our recess and other outdoor time. One day is is sunny, calm, and warm and students are taking layers off. The next day is is cloudy, windy, and cold and students are looking for extra layers to add. Please ensure your child has enough warm outdoor gear so that their time outside at recess is enjoyable and comfortable for them. Further, please make sure you are putting your child's name or initials on tags of hoodies and jackets that sometimes get left behind on warmer days. This helps us return these pieces of clothing to them quickly and easily.
Thank You To Our Wonderful Admin Assistants, Ms. Sally & Ms. Jen!
Wednesday, April 24 is Administrative Professionals Appreciation Day. We are grateful for Ms. Sally VanValkenburg and Ms. Jen Cole for all they do to make Riverview a special place for students, staff, and families.

Mark Your Calendars! 3rd Annual Project Based Learning Showcase Set For May 9
At Riverview we believe that hands-on and "project based learning" are effective ways to increase student engagement, help students discover their sparks, and improve learning outcomes. We have been focused throughout the year on our guiding question: "How can we, as engineers, have a positive impact on our community?" Students have learned about inventors, engineers, builders, and creators who have make our world more accessible, cleaner, safer, and more inclusive. We will be showcasing some of the things we have learned and projects we have created with a family engagement event on the night of Thursday, May 9 from 4:30-6:30.
In addition to the projects we have created, we will also have visitors fromt the FHS robotics team, community members who are dedicated to this work, opportunities to complete fun projects, food trucks, music, games, concessions, and more. We hope you can make it!
24-25 iPad Loan Agreement Is Now Open; Summer iPad Check Out Available
Families with learners who currently take iPads home in grades K-11 may now opt to checkout their district issued iPads for the summer months! We have been offering the optional summer iPad checkout since 2016. Nearly 70% of eligible families and learners last year opted to check out their issued iPads. Using RevTrak to agree to the updated 2024-25 iPad Loan Agreement will ensure that your child is set with their iPad check out for the entire 2024-25 academic year.
The option for Summer iPad checkout supports our efforts to foster open-ended, personalized learning opportunities; curiosity; exploration and continued access to creative tools and resources. It also allows students to continue to have access to technology that helps them stay connected to their schools, friends, family and the community during the summer months.
We encourage families to consider checking out their learner’s district issued iPad for the summer. The optional summer iPad checkout reduces the number of learners needing to participate in “spring collections” and the “fall checkout” process when schools are back in session. This shortens the amount of time that learners and teachers are without the use of iPads next fall. Those opting for summer iPad checkout will be set until spring 2025.
The updated 2024-25 iPad Loan Agreement, is available online and includes helpful information for iPads checked out for the summer and for the following school year. The RevTrak “iPad Loan Agreement” activities are live for each school site allowing parents, guardians, and learners the ability to review and agree to the terms of the 2024-25 iPad Loan Agreement and either opt to ENROLL in, or WAIVE participation in the iPad Protection Plan. The enrollment fee for the optional iPad Protection Plan is $35 for the 2024-25 school year, with no additional fee for the summer months.
Please note that if you have not used RevTrak yet, you will need to create an account and also know your child’s Student ID number to complete the registration process. If you used RevTrak for completing last year’s 2023-24 iPad Loan Agreement, the system has saved your parent and child account information. You will still need to know your learner’s Student ID number. The RevTrak e-Guides and Customer Account guide, along with the RevTrak Frequently Asked Questions provide helpful information for setting up and using the system.
Please see our Frequently Asked Questions for more details on the optional summer iPad checkout, the iPad Protection Plan, and repair procedures. Individual schools will share end-of-year collection information for those not choosing to take advantage of this opportunity.

Please Help Us Eliminate Distractions Caused By Phones & Smart Watches
We have recently been seeing more and more disruption to our instruction and learning due to phones and smartwatches, especially in the upper grades. Often times it is because students are messaging their parents or family members. We understand parents' desire to stay connected to their child during the school day, but we kindly ask that you do not message your child during the academic day. And we ask that you remind them to wait to message you until the end of the day.
Our school rule is that cell phones should be powered off and remain in lockers from the morning bell to the end of the school day. Most students understand this and follow the rule each day. Smartwatches are a little trickier, however. We currently do allow students to wear them. However, if/when they become a disruption to the learning environment or a distraction to learning for the individual child, we will ask students to take it off and either give it to the teacher for the remainder of the day or return it to their locker for the remainder of the day. Of course, we would rather not have to worry about phones or smartwatches at all, but when they get in the way of learning we are obligated to do so. Thank you for your understanding.
April is Autism Acceptance Month
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), is a complex, lifelong developmental condition that typically appears during early childhood and can impact a person’s social skills, communication, relationships, and self-regulation. The Autism experience is different for everyone. It is defined by a certain set of behaviors and is often referred to as a “spectrum condition” that affects people differently and to varying degrees.
While there is no known single cause for Autism, it is generally accepted that it is caused by differences in brain structure or genetic factors. Early diagnosis and intervention can greatly support a person with Autism with the resources needed to live fully.
Check out this resource from the Autism Society for more information.
No Unapproved Signage or Banners on School Grounds
This time of year again we tend to notice various organizations working to advertise for numerous events by placing yard signs or banners near school property. We want to remind all families and community members that we do not allow for placement of advertising materials on our properties. District groups can place signage on our properties, but all others should be run through the Superintendent’s Office and/or designee (typically the activities office at FHS). Any unapproved signs will be removed. Thank you for your understanding.
