What's Been Happening at MCE?
November Wildcat Award: Justin Graves
Coach Graves deserves the Wildcat award for many reasons. He is a true Wildcat who serves our students daily as a great physical education teacher. He does a great job of teaching all students the fundamentals of exercise and sports. More importantly, he creates an environment that allows all of his students to feel safe and supported when they participate in physical education.
His calm demeanor and fair approach make him an awesome middle school basketball coach. Kids who play for Coach Graves know that he cares about them as individuals and that he values all of his players and wants them to grow as both athletes and people. Coach Graves has a strong moral character and he models daily for his students and players how to exude sportsmanship, respect, and kindness to others. We are so grateful our children get to have Coach Graves as a role model and educator!
The Bank of Missouri: Hat & Glove Donation
Employees at the Bank of Missouri paid for jeans days, they then used the money to purchase stocking caps and gloves for the MCE students.
Student Council Holiday Shoppe: December 12-15th
The Student Council orchestrated a highly successful Holiday Shop catering to students from Pre-K to 5th grade. This year, we achieved a remarkable profit of $4,911, empowering us to proactively prepare for next year's event. Four dedicated teachers stood in line at Walmart at 5:30 A.M. on the day after Christmas, securing an impressive haul of over 10 shopping carts filled with fantastic items.
I extend my sincere gratitude to our consistent volunteers, Molly Taylor, a devoted PTO mom, and Misty Dothage, for their dedication of time throughout the week. Their efforts ensured the seamless operation of the event, enabling me to fulfill my counseling duties while periodically checking in on their progress. Bratchers Market generously allowed us to utilize their shopping baskets. The real store experience provided has added to the joy of giving during the holiday season, making our event even more special for the children.
Looking ahead, we are excited to build upon this year's success and have already formulated innovative ideas to enhance the event further. Planning will continue in October, and we are introducing an Amazon Wishlist for community members to peruse and contribute to our cause. The Wishlist will feature essential items such as bags, tissue paper, and tablecloths, crucial for the smooth execution of our event. An idea to allow the high school student council members or A+ students to help our little ones shop has been brought to us as a suggestion. We will be looking into this idea for next year.
In conclusion, the collaborative efforts of our Student Council, teachers, volunteers, and community partners have made the Holiday Shop a resounding success. We are eager to build on this success in the coming years, fostering a sense of community and holiday spirit within our school. Some of our funds from this event will be used toward the cost of Bounce House Day, a day we celebrate in May when all of our testing is done."
PBiS Snowball Fight: December 18th
Our PBIS team came up with a December school-wide incentive. After each classroom earned 30 tickets or dojo points for following the 5 B's they were allowed to come put a snowball (a piece of recycled paper) in the bucket. On Monday, December 18th, each classroom had a time slot in the gym to have a snowball fight! Hundreds of snowballs filled the gym floor and mats were used as forts. The children had an amazing time.
Santa's Elves: December 18th
Thank you to New Florence Wood Products and the Tacker family for ensuring that each child at Montgomery City Elementary received a Christmas gift!
MCE Christmas Concert: December 19th
It was fantastic to have a packed house for the MCE Christmas Concert! We filled over 300 folding chairs and most of the bleachers. Some families chose to view the concert from the cafeteria or bus entrance on the large screen televisions. Thank you to all who made the concert a wonderful way to celebrate the holiday season!

What's Coming Up at MCE?
FCCLA 2,000 Minute Reading Challenge: January 9-12th
The goal is to have all students working together as a classroom to reach the 2,000 minute reading goal, starting at 8 am January 9 and ending by 3:30 pm on January 12th.
Any reading that a student does independently at school or at home is able to count as part of the total. So, students who turn in reading logs from Tuesday night could add that total to their in class reading total for Tuesday.
We are excited to announce that the first classroom at MCE and the first classroom at JBE to reach 2,000 minutes as a class total, will receive $100 in books for your classroom library from MCHS FCCLA.
As well, the Kiwanis and MCHS FCCLA have partnered together to be able to offer ALL classrooms who complete the challenge by January 12th at 3:30 pm will receive $20 in books for your classroom library!
