NOHL CANYON ROADRUNNER NEWS
MAY 5TH - MAY 11TH: WEEKLY PUBLICATION
Message from Principal Strickland
This past weekend, many of our Run Club students participated in the Kids Run the OC Marathon. A good number of our students ran the final mile of the marathon. A handful of our kiddos challenged themselves with the 5K. It was great to see our students dedicating themselves to a goal and realizing its achievement. Look for a photo of the group in next week's newsletter. Run Club athletes should plan on wearing their Run Club shirts this coming Monday as well as any medals received from the OC Marathon for a group picture in the quad just after recess.
Below, you can see a few photos of our Carnival of Champions athletes. I am so proud of their showing at the OUSD track event. They represented Nohl Canyon well!
This coming week, Grades 3-6 student begin our CAASPP Statewide Testing in the areas of English Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science (5th grade only). This testing will happen over the course of the next three weeks between 8am and 10am. We very much appreciate your support helping to ensure students arrive well-rested, relaxed, and ready to give their best to these important assessments. In an effort to provide the best possible classroom environment during this period, we ask for your help and understanding with avoiding classroom interruptions during the hours of testing each day (8-10am).
As you will see, we are getting very close to the end of the school year. Please look carefully over the calendar of upcoming events listed below as there are certainly more than a few save the dates you will want to start planning for: VAPA performances, Open House, Ms. Karie TK-4 Music Concert, Knotts Berry Farm, Kinder Promotion, 6th Grade Promotion to name a few.
I will be messaging out more information soon for our 6th grade families that will include specific information regarding 6th grade promotion. For now, please plan on 10:30am as our start time on June 6th.
A great week ahead to all Roadrunners!

Students within our District may be eligible to access these funds upon enrollment in higher education institutions, utilizing them for tuition, fees, books, supplies, and other educational expenses. Low-income California public school students identified by the Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF) were automatically enrolled in CalKIDS if registered in grades 1-12 during the 2021-22 school year or in 1st grade during the 2022-23 school year.
Cell Phone Use - "NO CELL, BELL to BELL"
Nohl Canyon is beginning to see more students carrying their own cell phones. Please discuss with your child the guidelines for cell phones/communication devices (watches) while at school:
1) NO CELL from BELL to BELL - cell phones need to be turned OFF and stored in students backpack from first bell to dismissal bell.
2) Students who need to contact parents/guardians are expected to come to the front office to make the phone call.
3) Students who do not follow the guidelines:

Parent Parking Lot Volunteers Welcome!
Parking Lot Procedures
Thank you for making our parking lot procedures during drop-off and pick-up a safe and efficient machine. We serve a large number of vehicles in short period of time.
Thank you for your continued help with a few critical items:
- Please remember our Lower lot is Staff Only Parking. The lower entrance on Nohl Canyon RD is ENTRANCE ONLY in the Afternoon for Middle Lane traffic going to park in the FAR lot. Two-way use of this entrance presents a significant hazard to entering cars and pedestrian traffic.
- Please be kind to our parking lot volunteers. They make the whole thing work.
- Please ask your kiddos to walk when in front of school. Running children in the pick up area presents several hazards. Safety is our first priority.
- Trinity School Parking Lot is CLOSED for drop-off and pick-up parking.
- Parents, with respect to Trinity Pre-School and their families, we are not allowing Nohl Canyon families to park in the Trinity parking lot. Please follow this guideline and support us in keeping a positive community relationship with Trinity School. Trinity will often allow us to use their lot for special events but should not be used for drop-off or pick-up.
- Please remain clear of the Trinity lawn areas. Trinity lawns should not be used for student waiting for drop-off or pick-up. Students should always be picked up from our school site. If students are still here after 2:40pm, we bring them behind our school gates into our QUAD area for safety until parent pick-up. Please do not have your students wait at the Trinity site for pick-up.
- Please be sure to use crosswalks when crossing all major roads. Students being dropped off on Nohl Canyon Rd. and then proceeding across the street, presents a significant hazard to those students.
- Keep in mind, the Nohl Canyon Rd. entrance to our parking area is only to be used during afternoon pick-up and is limited to Middle Lane traffic that is pulling all the way through the lot to park in the back school lot.
Parents, Please watch the following video on Parking Lot Procedures
