Original Credit and Credit Recovery
Now in its eighth year, Avon Grove Virtual is pleased to provide summer school classes for original credit and credit recovery. Students have the option to advance their studies by taking original credit courses through AGV. Students can also make up a class which they were unable to complete successfully and in most cases, obtain the necessary credit recovery to stay on track for graduation. All original credit options are taught by AGHS teachers and will be facilitated through Schoology. All credit recovery options are offered through the Brandywine Virtual Academy (BVA). Any AGHS student who qualifies for free or reduced lunch is eligible for tuition assistance.

Frequently Asked Questions
What are original credit courses?
Original credit courses are facilitated by AGHS teachers, are run predominantly through Schoology, and may include an in-person component of the course.
What are credit recovery courses?
Credit recovery courses are for students who failed a course and would like to earn a higher grade in a course they have already taken. Credit recovery courses are hosted through Brandywine Virtual Academy (BVA) and while AGHS will enroll students, BVA teachers are responsible for your grades, answering questions, etc.
How do I pay for my courses?
In the past, we’ve offered opportunities to pay online; however, we’re currently switching online payment systems so for the 2024 summer school session, all payments must be submitted in cash or check to the AGHS guidance department. Payments can be dropped off in person during business hours or mailed to the office.
What are the dates for the courses?
Full credit courses begin on June 17 and finish on July 26. Half credit courses begin on June 24 and finish on July 26.
How many students will be in each class?
There will be a minimum of 7 students per class and a maximum of 25 students per class.
What if I need to miss an in-person session for my course?
Since it’s the summertime, our teachers are very flexible. Please contact your teacher to make them aware of your situation and they can help figure out a solution that works for everyone- just like you would during the school year!
How do I make sure that my school counselor updates my transcript and schedule for the upcoming school year after I’ve taken summer courses?
All grades, whether original credit or credit recovery, are shared with our guidance department at the close of the summer session. Since courses end at the end of July, counselors get grades 1-2 weeks afterward and then update your transcripts and schedules from there.
Are there in-person options?
Yes, physical education courses will have in-person options with flexible requirements.
Additionally, geometry will include synchronous/online sessions on Mondays, synchronous tests on Fridays from 9:30-11:30 a.m. The tests can be taken in-person or online with permission. Students can make-up a test in the high school office the following week for vacations. Student must commit 3 hours per day for the 6 weeks.
What is the refund policy?
A minimum number of students is required to run each section. No refunds will be issued after the registration deadline if the refund will drop the section below the required minimum. Refunds will be considered until 24 hours after the first class session. No refunds will be available after that time period.
