What is College Credit Plus?

The State of Ohio's College Credit Plus Program can help students earn college and high school credits at the same time by taking college courses from colleges and/or universities. The purpose of this program is to promote rigorous academic pursuits and to provide a wide variety of options for college-ready students. Taking a College Credit Plus course from a public college or university is free, which means no cost for tuition, books, or fees. If you choose to attend a private college or university, you may have limited costs. In place of regular high school classes, students can take college courses and earn credits that can be transferred to colleges and universities after graduation.

CCP Information Sessions

Columbus City Schools invites you and your student (s) to join us for ONE of these mandatory information sessions in order for your students to participate in College Credit Plus (CCP) courses during the 2025-2026 School Year. You can choose to attend ONLY ONE face-to-face, virtually, or watch the video. The session will include a presentation on the College Credit Plus Program and information on next steps. College/university representatives will also be presenting information and available for individual questions about their application process.

This meeting is mandatory for ALL students taking CCP courses, regardless if it's taken on the college campus, online, or in your high school. Attending the informational meeting must be completed yearly along with submitting the Letter of Intent.

No Appointment is necessary, go to the location closest to you on the listed dates. Required documents to bring: Picture ID for Head of household and proof of dependants with birth dates for all household members. Parents/Guardians will select toys and pick up a food box the week before Christmas. The time and location will be shared at Registration.

The CKC program aims to help pregnant people and children apply for Medicaid or CHIP insurance. Medicaid and CHIP offer free or low-cost health insurance for kids and teens. If you have uninsured children or are pregnant, you can get free assistance to apply or reapply for Medicaid in Ohio. Who is eligible for a free Ohio Identification Card?

In order to qualify for a Free Ohio Identification Card (ID):

• You must be an Ohio resident
• You must be 17 years old or older
• Ohioans who are under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or a guardian.
• You can not already hold a valid driver license. Driver License holders can, however, choose to downgrade to a State ID.

Where do I get a free Identification Card (ID)?

Visit any BMV deputy registrar license agency in Ohio.

Online

Many individuals who already have a valid State Identification card can renew their ID online through BMV Online Services. Replacement IDs for lost or stolen cards may also be obtained in certain circumstances through BMV Online Services.

How do I get a free Identification Card (ID)?

Ohio Identification (ID) Cards are issued to Ohio residents who do not have a valid driver license. If an individual has a driver license in a different state and applies for an Ohio ID, the driver license from that state will be canceled.

Ohio ID cards are valid for four years or eight years and there is no minimum age for obtaining one. You must provide proof of:

• Full legal name
• Date of birth
• Social Security number (if ever assigned)
• Legal presence
• Ohio residency

Stepping Stones Is a free six-week group designed specifically for parents/caregivers of children ages 0-12 with developmental delays or disabilities. Throughout this group, parents/caregivers will learn strategies to help them manage their child’s behavior and get more of the behaviors they want to see. SPARK has been dedicated to helping vulnerable children make a seamless transition into kindergarten, setting them on the path to becoming successful learners. This innovative home-visiting, family-focused kindergarten readiness program works with families, schools, and the community to ensure children are prepared for school and life. The free program serves children who are turning 3 or 4 years of age by September 30 of each year in Franklin County.

The Aspire program offers free ESL, High School Equivalency (GED, HiSET), post-secondary preparation and career training for adult learners at different locations throughout Columbus. Day, evening and weekend, virtual and in-person class options are available.

The Day of the Dead (el Día de los Muertos), is a holiday where families welcome back the souls of their deceased relatives for a brief reunion that includes food, drink and celebration.

Mexico is not the only country that celebrates Day of the Dead. Many other Latin countries like Columbia, Ecuador, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Peru, and Venezuela all have their distinct ways of welcoming back their passed loved ones. Some not as colorful and festive as the Mexican version, but still a spiritual time for families to get together and reflect.

Traditions and customs vary per country, but the base beliefs remain the same. Even in Mexico, the customs vary depending on the area in Mexico or even by household. Day of the Dead tends to be celebrated more elaborately in Central and Southern Mexico.

A blend of Mesoamerican ritual, European religion and Spanish culture. The Day of the Dead is celebrated on November 2nd. However, the celebration begins on October 27th and lasts until November 3rd. View the images below for a guide to the celebration.

We observe Native American Heritage Month in November to recognize the achievements and contributions of Native Americans. When possible and if known, indigenous people should be referred to as belonging to a particular tribe.There are hundreds of Native American languages spoken today. As an older generation of speakers dies out, many languages run the risk of extinction. While settler colonialism continues to threaten these enduring bonds to the landscape, tribes fight to sustain their community through tradition and activism. The displacement of Native Americans and continued lack of recognition of rights to their homelands over time remains on the periphery of history. "American Indians" have eagerly served a government which did not always keep its word to their ancestors. They have volunteered to serve in conflicts from World War II to Iraq. Veterans History Project

The National Archives holds hundreds of thousands of U.S. Government records relating to Native Americans, from as early as 1774 through the mid-1990s. These include every treaty signed with Native Americans, records from the Indian Schools, Indian Census Rolls, and Bureau of Indian Affairs records.

During November we celebrate the diverse and rich culture, history, and traditions of Native/Indigenous people. The observance is also a time to educate anyone and everyone about the different tribes, raise awareness about the struggles native people faced as well as in the present. Indigenous American pictures, words, names, and stories are a crucial part of American history and help mold our life today.

Red Ribbon Week is a campaign that raises awareness of the dangers of alcohol, tobacco, drugs, and violence in the United States. During Red Ribbon Week, youth and adults around the nation pledge to increase their knowledge by learning more about the destructive effects of drug abuse, including prescription drug misuse, and renew their commitment to live a healthy, drug-free lifestyle.

First Flamenco Lessons with Griset will start November 1st. The program will run for 20 weeks, once a week on Friday from November-March. There will be a concluding performance with small groups of students in April, 2025. All students PreK-5th and Special need K-3 will participate in the 40 minute Flamenco Lessons on a rotating basis, all classes will have 4 lessons throughout this time.

These playdates were designed to help our 5th grade students connect with one another before merging into WLMS. Our hope is to help build a kind and caring community for our growing children. Visit the Ohio Statehouse for a free guided tour. Tours begin at 10 AM and end with the final tour at 3 PM. The Ohio Statehouse is open daily except for holidays.
