Bus Transportation Change Request Form
WEATHER - CLOSURE…EARLY RELEASE….LATE START….
Decisions on school closures, late starts, or delays during weather conditions are typically based on factors such as the severity of the weather, timing of the event, road conditions, safety of students and staff - including in and out of district bus/van drivers. We monitor local weather reports, consult with transportation teams regarding road safety, and consider the ability to clear snow or ice on both roads and school grounds. Input from local authorities, such as police or public works, is also essential. We appreciate the communication between the Town of Freetown, Town of Lakeville, police from both towns and First Student transportation that occurs regularly as we make “the call”. We are conscientious of the first buses on the road, the experience of our younger drivers, the distance our staff have to travel, the time that the last students will arrive home in the evening and the ideal notification times for families to make plans. This is all balanced with the impact on the calendar year and the possibility of shifting weather patterns as is common here in New England. Ultimately, the goal is to ensure the safety of everyone involved while minimizing disruption to education - we appreciate everyone’s understanding as it appears winter is not over.
