Flight Plan
May Edition
Dear Adkins Families,
Can you believe we’re already here—at the end of the school year? It feels like just yesterday we welcomed your children through our doors, backpacks bouncing and smiles shining with first-day-of-school energy. Now, here we are in May, filled with awe at the incredible growth, joy, and memories we’ve all shared together.
It has truly been an honor and a delight to not only educate your children but to love them each and every day. We do not take lightly that you trust us with your most precious gifts. That partnership with you—our amazing families—means the world to us.
This year’s theme, Aviators Go Beyond, has shown up in countless ways: from students taking academic risks, showing incredible character, diving deep into learning, and supporting one another in ways that make us beam with pride. We’ve witnessed impressive growth across every grade level—academic, emotional, and social—and we know these are lessons and memories your children will carry with them for years to come.
As we prepare to wrap up the year, we’re doing it the Aviator way—with joy and celebration! Field Day and Fun Run were just the beginning of our end-of-year festivities. We had an absolute blast cheering your students on and watching their faces light up during all the fun activities. And the fun doesn’t stop there…
We’re soaring into May with:
-
A rooftop welcome for our students,
-
A goat-kissing moment to remember,
-
Teachers getting pies in the face (all in good fun!),
-
An inflatable teacher race (yes, it's as hilarious as it sounds!),
-
The 5th Grade Musical showcase,
-
Core Value Awards that celebrate who we are,
-
And our beloved end-of-year class parties.
Every moment is a celebration of the hard work, heart, and spirit of this community. We are already looking ahead with excitement to another year of learning and growing together. Until then, we’ll end this year strong—with laughter, pride, and a deep love for our Aviators.
Thank you for an amazing year. We are Aviators. Set to Jet!
Our last awards assembly will be on Wednesday, May 21st.
With gratitude,
Mrs. Adams & Mrs. Vaughan
Adkins Elementary Administration
Adkins Awards
Dear Adkins Families,
As we wrap up a phenomenal school year, we’re excited to focus on our final Core Value of 2025–2026: GRIT!
At Adkins, we define grit as the ability to keep going—even when something is hard. It's that powerful combination of perseverance, resilience, and courage that helps us grow through challenges, not just get through them. Whether it’s solving a tough math problem, practicing a new skill, or working through a disagreement, we want our Aviators to know that it's okay not to get it right the first time—what matters most is the willingness to keep trying.
Part of growing up is learning that success often comes with a little productive struggle. That’s where real growth lives—in the moments where we stumble, reflect, and rise again. We’re proud to help our students build this mindset at school, and we’re so grateful to you for encouraging it at home too.
Thank you for showing grit in your own parenting journeys—cheering your children on, navigating the tough moments, and fostering independence. As we head into summer and beyond, let’s keep asking:
How can we help our children grow stronger by doing things with them, not for them?
How can we create space for them to try, fail, and try again?
Let’s keep growing grit, together.
Coming Soon!
Adkins College & Career Day is on May 16th from 8 AM to 11 AM. We would love for you to join us and share information about your career. Each session will last twenty minutes, with a five-minute break between sessions.
In our Guidance lessons for pre-K-5th grade, we're excited to dive into the theme of personal responsibility! Our students are learning how to manage their time, complete assignments, and work together respectfully with their classmates. This critical skill isn't just for school; it also carries over to home life! They cultivate a sense of reliability by practicing organization and helping with family tasks. Plus, spending time in nature helps them connect with their environment and understand their impact on the world.
Here are some fun ideas to help practice personal responsibility at home:
1. Responsibility Chart: Create a colorful chart where kids can earn stickers or points for completing tasks like homework or helping. This makes accountability fun!
2. "I Can" Statements: Encourage your child to set personal goals using "I Can" statements, like "I can remember my homework." They can track their progress, which is super motivating!
3. Students can draw a picture or write about their responsibilities at home. During our weekly guidance session, we would love to celebrate their contributions by sharing their writing or drawings with the class.
