Decoding and Disrupting Dominant Narratives, presented by Wee the People
Together we will explore popular children's books and other media as opportunities to notice, critically read, and disrupt dominant narratives with kids around race, gender, ethnicity, LGBTQ identity, immigrant identity, and other marginalized identities.

Wee The People (WTP) is a Boston-based social justice project for children ages 4-12. Launched in 2015 by two Black mothers, WTP organizes free, interactive workshops and events that explore activism, resistance, and social action through the visual and performing arts: music, dance/movement, theater, graphic arts, spoken word, and storytelling. Last Few Days to Submit Summer Reading Program Statistics
Statistics collection for the children's and young adult Summer Reading Program is now open through September 30th. There will be one online survey for collecting children's and YA program numbers, and libraries must designate one staff member to submit one form for both programs. The collection survey can be found at http://olis-ri.libwizard.com/srp19stats
Completion of the statistics collection is required to receive 2020 SRP materials. There will be a separate survey for collecting statistics for the adult program.
Lights on Afterschool Summit
United Way’s Rhode Island Afterschool Network (RIAN) invites you to our 17th Annual Lights On Afterschool Summit. Join us on Thursday, October 24, to celebrate the afterschool professionals who inspire Rhode Island’s children.

RI Mobile Maker Lab
The RI Mobile Maker Lab, is a grant funded initiative, that operates as a mobile classroom. We travel throughout RI, introducing folks to CNC technology and advancement manufacturing, with programming that includes 3D printers, laser cutter, vinyl cutters, and CNC wood routers. Fall Restorative Justice Practices Training Sessions
Starting October 10, The Youth Restoration Project (YRP) is offering its fall series of Restorative Justice Practices (RJP) trainings, at the Sargent Center in Warwick and Bayside in Portsmouth, RI. These trainings teach skills, techniques and tools for resolving conflict and healing breakdowns in relationships and communities.
Required Overview sessions are offered October 10, October 23, and November 6. Participants can choose their two to four subsequent sessions from 8 energizing options over an 10-week period. Mock Newbery Discussion #1
It's time to start taking a closer look at the children's books of 2019. Please read 8 of the 16 books on the discussion list for the first meeting. Participating in the Mock Newbery is an opportunity to read the newest children’s books and to discuss them with other passionate readers. Voting for a Rhode Island winner and honor books will take place on January 14, 2020 using the balloting procedures of the real committee.
