Understanding Perseverance
Perseverance means to keep trying (persist) at a task. Persevering—especially when faced with adversity—can help you reach long-term goals (e.g., learning a new hobby, skill, or sport and/or getting into college).
Did you know there are steps to perseverance?
- CULTIVATE CURIOSITY. Develop a deep interest in what you are learning.
- INCREASE YOUR EFFORT. Don’t blame your ability, but instead work to improve it.
- LEARN FROM FAILURE. Look for and apply lessons from setbacks and disappointments.
- TALK TO YOURSELF TO GUIDE YOUR LEARNING. Encourage and guide yourself through obstacles.
- LEARN FROM ROLE MODELS AND MENTORS. Look for examples and guidance from others.
Ask yourself, how well do you at applying each of these steps?
