Job Safety and First Aid
M/W Job Safety and First Aid provides instruction on emergency first aid awareness and techniques. Students acquire knowledge and skills necessary for managing emergencies in industrial settings as well as for personal use. The course includes CPR training with AED, control of bleeding and shock management, recognizing heart problems, stroke, poisoning, burns, diabetes, seizures, trauma injuries, hypothermia, frostbite and insect stings. Students will be introduced to Mine Safety Health Administration (MSHA) Certification requirements. OSHA and NIOSH safety requirements in a variety of work settings are included. Personal safety is stressed. Upon satisfactory completion of the course, students will receive an American Heart Association First Aid and CPR for Adults, Children, and Infants card, including AED. - Instructor: Nurse Soeder
Construction Trades
This class covers the use of carpentry tools, construction tools, and instruments as well as the processes involved in construction. Basic mathematical procedures commonly used in the construction crafts are included. Safety is stressed throughout the course. We will learn wall framing, truss construction, floor layout, costs analysis, basic wiring, soldering techniques, and Sheetrock repair. We will construct a sauna to apply the skills we learned throughout the quarter. Completion of this class with good attendance and participation will make you employable in an entry level position working with a contractor builder.

Public Art
T/TH Students will participate in making art that is on display in a public area. They will learn how to collaborate on projects with multiple other artists, how to make a proposal, and how to make things on a large scale. Students will also learn about the principles of art and learn they interact in space. We will be starting the class with finishing up the mural in the big room (tree trunk). - Instructor: Ms. Dishneau
Freedom Writers
This class will be based on Erin Gruwell’s book and strategies that were highlighted in the film Freedom Writers. The class will go in depth about her unconventional but highly successful educational strategies and techniques (all 150 of her students, who had been deemed “unteachable,” graduated from Wilson High School in Long Beach, California). This course is taught by a teacher who was officially trained and certified as a Freedom Writer educator. The class will focus on leaving the past behind and starting with a fresh perspective through writing exercises that focus on the importance of journal writing, vocabulary, and more.

On the Job Communication
On the Job Communication covers entry-level course work for the student interested in English credit preparing for graduation, vocational certification, or two-year associate degree. This course introduces necessary communication skills in writing, reading, listening, and group work. This class focuses on getting ready for work; documents associated with getting ready for work such as resumes, informative writing; communicating with customers and coworkers. By the end of the class, the student will have a professional resume, will have filled out actual job applications, and will have knowledge of current workplace writing skills.

Robotics
T/TH Students will learn to program, design, build, and operate robots to use in competition! Students will learn the basics of coding and using robots to perform tasks, and then use this knowledge to compete in teams against each other. This course is taught by a former rocket scientist who designed the rockets that helped land the Mars Rover onto Mars! Restaurant Management
What goes on behind the restaurant dining room is a very different world that what goes on out front and really determines the success or failure of an establishment. Restaurant Management will show you exactly what’s needed to run a successful restaurant, including ordering supplies, hiring quality workers, maintaining inventory, and managing a large staff. Understanding such concepts as food safety, hygiene, customer relations, marketing, and using a point of sale system are crucial to being an effective restaurateur. Whether you are hoping to operate a casual sit-down eatery, oversee a fine dining establishment, or buy a food franchise, this course is the perfect first step. You will get the chance to earn your food handler’s card, as well as make connections with local business owners.

Mindful Movement
Learn how mindfulness practices promote greater understanding of nature, self, health & wellness. Explore concepts of mindfulness through practicing intentional movement that requires focus and concentration to train the mind such as with yoga, karate and slacklining. Pursuing the connection between art, nature and thought. We’ll play with watercolor and discover big ideas about nature and self.

M/W In this class, students will manipulate linear thread and fiber by dying, cutting, sewing, or embroidering.
