GOODNOE GAZETTE
September 20, 2024
Dear GES Families,
It was nice to see so many families at last evening's Back to School Picnic. What a great way to kick off an exciting school year ahead. Thank you to the PTO for organizing this fun event! Today, students attended a school wide PBIS assembly and were able to see all of the places that Rocky traveled to this summer! Thank you for sharing your journeys with us. Be sure to ask your child/ren about it!
For your planning purposes, our Halloween parade will be held on October 31st at 9:45 a.m. The parade and parties are held in the morning to create a calm afternoon and dismissal.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Beth

EMERGENCY SAFETY DRILLS
Within the first 60 days of school, we must conduct emergency drills within our building. These drills help us to practice what we should do in the event of an emergency. Fire Drills are practiced monthly. During the 1st week of school, we conducted our first Fire Drill for the school year and students did a fantastic job!
On Thursday, September 26th we will practice a Shelter-In- Place drill. This drill is designed to protect our children/staff from weather related emergencies. In late October, we will practice our A.L.I.C.E. Drills for an inside & outside threat. This drill is designed to protect our children/staff in the event an intruder enters the building (inside threat) or intruder on our school grounds (outside threat).
At times, we may have local law enforcement and district security personnel to assist with these drills. This added layer of expertise provides us with useful feedback to continuously improve on our safety/security efforts. Additionally, teachers will continue to review these procedures with students throughout the school year.
If you should report to the school during these drills you will not be able to enter the building. A sign will be posted on the outside door to communicate this. Most drills are fairly brief. We thank you, in advance, for your patience and understanding during this time.
We are busy learning!

SCHOOL WIDE POSITIVE BEHAVIOR SUPPORT (PBIS)
During the past few weeks, your child’s class has been reviewing the SW-PBIS (School Wide- Positive Behavior Interventions & Support) school expectations. The lessons included a class discussion, modeling and practicing of respectful, responsible, and safe behaviors in the locations listed on the school-wide matrix. Your child’s class also learned about the voice levels that are expected for the different locations. Earlier this week your child brought home a paper copy of the matrix and voice level chart. Please take some time to review the papers with your child. The copies are for you to keep and refer to at home. There is a half sheet of paper for you and your child to sign and return to your child's homeroom teacher. Thank you for your support!
GOODNOE HOSTS BLOOD DRIVE
Goodnoe Elementary School will be holding a community blood drive through the American Red Cross on Friday, October 11th from 1-5pm in the gymnasium. We are excited to bring this opportunity to our school community as the need for donations is greater now than ever. If you would like to donate yourself, sign up using this link. In addition to the community drive, our elementary students will be learning about the importance of this process during their Science classes leading up to the drive. Please consider signing up to be a lifesaver, 1 donation can save up to 3 lives! If you have any questions, please reach out to Ms. Potash, epotash@crsd.org.
CRSD CELL PHONE/SMART WATCH POLICY
This is a reminder that all Electronic Devices are against our District Policy. Even if text/phone usage is disabled on these devices, many still have the capability of taking photos & accessing the internet, etc. As a result, they are not permitted to be worn during the school day. All electronic devices should be turned off and remain in backpacks if they are brought to school.
Excerpt from CRSD/GES Parent Handbook
The use of cell phones by students is prohibited during the school day or on the school bus (Section 1317.1 PA School Code). Students, who possess cell phones, must secure them in their backpacks/schoolbags throughout the school day, turned off, not silent or vibrate. This eliminates unnecessary interruptions to instruction.
Students may not use cell phones during lunch, recess or breaks. Cell phones are to remain off during the school day, including the school bus. In the event a student uses a cell phone (calling, texting, photographing or otherwise) or the phone rings, during the school day, the student will be asked to turn the cell phone off before releasing to staff. Following, the cell phone should be picked up by a parent/guardian/designated adult at their earliest convenience, in the main office during school hours. The Council Rock School District assumes no responsibility for cell phones or other electronic devices that are lost, stolen or broken.
GES PARENT- STUDENT HANDBOOK
I encourage parents to review the Parent-Student handbook with their child(ren). This is optimal for families new to the school, but it's also an ideal way to have students get back into "school mode."
There are specific areas that would benefit a review with children before the start of the school year. These areas include policies involving:
- Birthdays
- Cell Phones
- Computer Usage Policy
- Forgotten Items
- Sneakers
- Dress and Grooming
- School Rules and Expectations
You can view the handbook below.
FAMILY EDUCATIONAL TRIP FORM
Attached is the form to be completed for Family Educational Trips. Handwritten letters are accepted, however this form is preferred. Please be sure to submit the form/letter at least ten (10) days prior to your trip, for approval. Please contact Sue Bogucki, attendance clerk, at sbogucki@crsd.org if you have questions regarding this process.
5TH & 6TH GRADE CHORUS
Dear 5th and 6th Grade Families,
We are excited to offer Chorus at Goodnoe Elementary! All students in 5th and 6th grade are invited to participate. Our main 5th and 6th grade chorus is held before the official school day starts so families will need to provide transportation to rehearsal. We will rehearse Fridays from 8:30am-9:10am. This year we will also have a select chorus that meets on Mondays from 8:30-9:10. Singers in this group will still need to commit to the regular Friday rehearsals. Depending on interest, this select chorus may be auditioned.
To be a part of this year’s 5th and 6th Grade Chorus, please fill out the form below:
https://forms.gle/waEjiichDpxfu13y7
Once you are signed up, I will email important information and dates. Chorus will begin on Friday, September 27th so please sign up before that date
If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact me at cmilliken@crsd.org. Thank you and have a wonderful day!
Sincerely, Ms. Milliken
GOODNOE RUNNING CLUB
Registration for the Goodnoe Running Club is now open for students in grades 4-6. This activity is a fun, non-competitive running program designed to promote fitness and healthy lifestyles with our students. Our runs will begin on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, and we will meet every Wednesday until November 20. Students must be picked up by the gym at 4:30 pm. We will combine dynamic warm-ups with a 1-mile run, along with an option to run extra laps around the soccer field. Running is not only healthy for your child’s physical health, but it can also have a positive effect on mental health by reducing stress and anxiety and improving mood and sleep. It is also a wonderful way to spend time with friends outdoors. The program is open to all 4th, 5th, and 6th grade Goodnoe students. If you want to have your child participate, please complete the registration form below by September 18th, and send in $20 cash in an envelope marked “Goodnoe Running Club” with your child’s name on it. The money will help pay for a t-shirt, water bottle, and a water ice party on the last day of the running club. We will also need parent volunteers to help the program run smoothly. Please consider helping out.
If you have any questions, please contact Stephanie Rothrock at srothrock@crsd.org.

VISITOR SIGN-IN
For parents and other visitors, entry into our school buildings will require the production of a driver’s license or other form of photo identification. This identification will be used in conjunction with our access system (RAPTOR) to validate identification before a visitor enters the school building. Once the driver’s license is scanned, the system will print out a badge that includes the name and picture of the visitor, destination and the date/time of the visit. Visitors who do not present their driver’s license/identification will not gain entry into the building.
DOGS/PETS ON SCHOOL GROUNDS
When escorting students to and from school, please do not bring pets on school grounds or into the school building. Many of our children are afraid of animals or have pet allergies; therefore, the presence of animals in school or on school grounds is prohibited. Some classes at Goodnoe Elementary School do participate in the Nor’Wester Reading Dogs program, so on occasion you may see dogs visiting. These dogs are specially trained and licensed to work in the schools with students. No other animals are permitted on school property during school hours. Please refer to our board policy for more information on animals in school policy 105.3 https://go.boarddocs.com/pa/coun/Board.nsf/goto?open&id=AQ5KYB538D2B
